Nearly a decade ago, I attempted to draw a children's book about my gryphon musician Ballad Quill and his human friend/musical partner Sondrew Hayne. At the time I was transitioning from my flat style to something more like my current style, and I didn't want to work in the style the existing illustrations were in, so I abandoned the project.
The original had a more purely cartoony look. For this new version, I wanted the characters to look more like how I draw them now, combined with the look of a Renaissance book page, (thus the border.)
