I've seen friends get sick, family members die and myself has felt the cold breath of the reaper no less than 5 times this spring/summer alone. It has been... insane. Naturally, this has caused me to be insanely stressed out, broken down, mentally exhausted to a point somewhere beyond what I thought was possible and in general, extremely moody, snappy and anti-social. Quarantine locked me inside my home, and the stress locked me out of almost all my online interactions at that. Sadly, including one of my mates, Valia.
But this is where something truly beautiful comes in that shines like a bright star through the darkness of this year - the magic of our relationship. While it's true that Valia and I have been talking less than we used to, it has not mattered. Both busy with our lives, we just found some kind of unification in our solitude. We just connected in a way that stood above anything mundane, and despite being perhaps further apart than we have every been with travel restrictions and limited online time, both of us felt ourselves drifting closer to the other instead of further apart. Sometimes, with all the stress that we were under, I felt closer to Valia than the mates I actually live with.
It's been a time of words without words.
As Valia sat in the study reading for herself an autumn storm was raging outside. The wind howled around the corners of the house, rain drummed against the windowsill and the pale light of the harvest moon shone in through the window, where it met the warm glow of the lantern. The power was out, but that did not matter. Flicking her frills a few times to the sound of the rain, she carefully turned another page in her book with her claws, only to look up at the sound of a bump against the door. The door slowly slid up and a dark shape slipped into the room. While she couldn't see who it was, she just knew, and smiled warmly. As Val carefully came strolling in on soft paws to not make any noise, she smiled back at Valia once her face was lit up by the lantern. And without a word, she pulled out a book of her own, sat down next to her ness and opened it. So they sat for a few minutes in perfect silence until there was a twitch of a tail. Both of them looked up and gave the other a warm smile as tails slid across the carpet, coiling around each other. With their tails still slowly curling into a cozy knot, both of them went back to their books and continued reading. No words needed to be said, because the silence between them spoke more loud and clear than any of them could on their own. It was a moment of perfection, a symbiosis, an equilibrium. Both of them started to softly purr under their breath, feeling warm in the love that radiated from the other.
I love you so much, my dear~ You mean so much to me~

IneyWing who did the most amazing job at capturing this moment so perfectly, I'm so happy I came to her for this commission! I just gave her a few prompts of what I wished the scene to be about, and she nailed it You can see her original upload here >>
