So this is what I've been breaking my back over for the past month or two. Royal pain in the ass it's been, too. But I'm proud of it, more or less!
This is for a sci-fi furry story I'm writing, titled 'Tales of Hyperspace'. Also, once the coverpage for said story is done, I'll be switching accounts. xD (Note me if you want it, haha)
The StarCrosser is the main 'flagship' vessel of the story, in which about 80-90% of everything that happens in this story has the StarCrosser involved in some way. It has minimal defenses for a mothership, consisting of eight anti-fighter rotary energy cannons, and a single, underslung heavy Ion cannon.
This is still FAR from finished, but I felt that since I'm going to Califur and will be gone a few days, I might as well show I'm not dead here, haha. :D

Thanks! <3 Yeah, this is like....the first of 120 vessels I have to build. Thank god I can sacrifice this brutal detail with the smaller ships! XD
I use Cinema 4D, and the polycount...*Checks* The count is 21402 (104404). Pretty sure that means I've got 104404 polys to this thing. Holycrap I need to do some reductions. xD
Thanks again!

hmm.. i m usin C4d myself - even though a version that is about ten years old... *shrugs* and about your polycount, well... 105k still looks quite good to me... compare with this http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3609632 and you ll see, why....
a little example about turret size from my scraps... here we have a Carrier of my fleet (to be re-done in higher detail once i feel like it) but it may serve you as reference regarding ship-size and turret-size http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3553090/
That's the thing. Melting polygons requires careful selection. Its limitation is that whatever polygons you want to melt, have to all be a flat surface together. Example: Top of a cube, cylinder, any group of polygons that are only a flat surface. That way there is no distortion. There's some exceptions here and there to that rule, but essentially, you just select all of one flat surface's polygons, and then melt 'em. :3 Hope that helps!
