Hanahaki:
A trope regarding unrequited love. Hanahaki disease is inflicted in a character who has yes to confess or have their feelings reciprocated. A plant takes root in their chest, causing shortness of breath and making the character cough up flower petals until eventually they burst forth from their mouth and the character dies of asphyxiation. The disease can only be truly cured by mutual feelings from their object of affection. In events where it's not terminal, it may also be surgically removed. However, the subject's ability to love again is removed with it.
