Like many animals in zoos these days, this little fellow was found injured and was rescued by the zoo. Due to permanent disability from the injury, he can't be returned to the wild.
I visited the Eureka zoo during a recent trip I made up to the northern end of California to hike in the redwood forests there along the coast. A really good hiking experience. The zoo is really small but what they have is nice. It made for a nice stop on the way home.
