For anyone that knows me well, they know my background as a table top gamer spans decades. I still enjoy it, and have moved back to it, mostly on line. Since my experience was early, my preference in RPG is a bit crunchy, with maps an miniatures, as I like solving tactical puzzles. Interestingly, D&D Fifth Edition supports that sort of gameplay nicely. Systems I like are 5e, and the Hero System (4th Edition preferred, but any edition someone else is running), and Mongoose's Traveller 2nd edition.
Recently, I wanted to try Magnus, as a D&D character. That was a lot of fun. Lately, Heroforge.com, changed the interface of their custom miniature maker, and put together a nice collection of parts and pieces, that people could put something together, very similar to one's mental image of a character. I confess, that the little online tool is very addictive. So I made a bunch of my characters, and some for other people. I have bought a few as STL files, so I have scaled them up in the print as figurines, as well as the 30mm scale miniatures.

At the time of writing , they are offering a Black Friday sale for STL files at $3.99, and as I have a 3D printer, and one of the reasons I became a good traditional inker, was because of my experience painting miniatures, through Junior high and High school. it's a very relaxing thing to do. So give it a try yourself, and give it a go.

looking good. I bet he's a menace on the battlefield. :)
today I got my two printed-out figures of my silver half-dragon named Calabrimdon (some might remember than name off the old Ral Partha catalogues), but it looks like metals don't print. one spot has a faint hint of metallic, or is it the surface? the rest supposedly various shades of silver are just light warm grey with shadings. the other colours look good, with some washing they will reveal their details I'm sure. but the metals need re-painting.
I got mine printed in the netherlands. I don't know about the other printing partners, maybe they can do metallic.

Magnus in 5e was a lawful neutral Fighter, battle master, with a soldier background.
The The color printing of the miniatures is adequate but they do require a dark brown wash or a dark blue wash for the armor, but yes the metallics are not very metallic.

there are pens made specifically for model car freaks, brand name Molotov, which create an equally shiny chrome layer. but I don't know if it would survive a coating with coloured clear coat... gotta try it out one day.
I heard of the rustoleum brand, saw it used in many die-cast model car restaurations, but I doubt I can find it in germany. ah, we'll see. :)
