Malkin is not a dragon who existed on earth, but another world far far away from our own. Humans do exist on this world, for they had arrived from the sky. Before the arrival of man however, things for the world had been grim. With dragons being the dominate creature and nothing to keep their numbers in check, the balance of the world began to take a devastating turn.

Malkin is a dragon of the light, a creature who feeds on the light of the two stars his world orbits around. Perhaps through evolution or maybe their ability to change the way their body functions, human scientists never had much time to study how such a thing could happen so quickly. For something had taken their attention away from the gentle creatures. During the Era of Sorrow, man had left the towering cities and spread out upon the world.

The Cities of old man, now belong to the dragons of dark... those who avoid the light of the sun so they can feast upon the allure of flesh and blood. Anything they deem weak is their prey and dragon's like Malkin are foreseen as weak. The only others who still inhabit the city are the souless ones who maintain the decaying cities.

Whether or not those scars were caused by a dragon of dark seeking Malkin as prey or if he had been protecting a lesser creature from a dark dragon. That will be possibly detailed in the upcoming story I'm still musing about.
