I could actually see Dusk having a futuristic type of cigarette or vape, that way there are no health concerns. I was wondering if he uses other methods for contemplation. I could imagine when he's alone in deep thoughts, twirling Chinese worry balls in his paw, just a thought. However, in terms of this scene is does come across quite effectively.
