Nostalgic- Fiction Fox AR (For Boltro)
Koopus is back, folks! And guiltier than ever! Whoo-hoo! I should have been posting 3 weeks back when I got out of college for the summer.
This image is part of a series I've been planning for a while now, based on
freshstartwithabrokenheart's submission: Regression By Old Fads. I made a promise to him... I told him I'd get this image to him before he left for a month-long trip. It's been ready for several days now and I've not been able to face posting it. Why? Your guess is as good as mine... I just hope he sees this before he leaves...
Boltro, I'm sorry this took so long, I hope it is satisfactory...
Anyway, the premise of the series was for me to draw several of my friends' fursonas being regressed by an artifact or fond memory from their childhood. First up of course is Boltro's, then I have to do one for Calex and one for Odin- Hopefully those are coming in the coming weeks... And in a more timely fashion than this one.
This is Fiction Fox, Boltro's alternate fursona character... (Yes, I fail at distinguishing canids... It's supposed to be a fox... I need more practice...) Okay, so Fiction Fox's artifact is the first Digimon movie, which was released in America in 2000- (Many AR fans are familiar with this film, for obvious reasons)...

Generic garage sale, Spring 2009
Fiction Fox, while disinterestedly browsing the junk-stocked shelves comes across a couple of large boxes filled with old video cassette tapes. Peering in, his eyes traveled over dozens of titles, old forgotten Westerns, obscure black and white films, cheesy sitcoms... Several of the cardstock cases were in terrible condition, liberally taped, some were re-labeled untidily. FF saw nothing of interest until he came to the last title, his eyes widened. 'It couldn't be...' He carefully extracted the tape and stared in disbelief at the miraculous discovery. It was in perfect condition, too! The box still had its sheen, its bright colors gleamed in the gloomy garage, a chill went up his spine. For a few seconds FF just stared, then, with a mental start, he remembered the public nature of his location, he closed his gaping mouth and quickly looked around. The garage was nearly empty, except for a pair of elderly female anthro felines fauning over baby clothes in the clothing section and a small group of youngsters who were rooting through the old toys near the entrance. FF returned his gaze to the cassette in his paws. Then he made up his mind, he grabbed up 3 more tapes at random and shuffled his precious discovery in with them, they were 4 for a dollar so it was no big deal. He walked casually past his fellow shoppers in the direction of the cashier out front on the lawn. As he passed the kids at the mouth of the garage, he distinctly heard one of them remark, brandishing an action figure at his friend
"Why don't they make cool stuff like this anymore?!"
The cashier was a kind, cheery female cockatoo anthro with lemon yellow feathers. She smiled at FF as he showed her his items for purchase.
"That's it, is it?" She inquired, FF nodded, not meeting her eyes, carefully covering his special tape's title from her gaze with a paw. "One dollar then, sweetie, if you please," FF shifted the stack of tapes in one arm and dug into his pocket for some cash. "Ah, you've made some good choices, honey," came the cashier's voice, "You've got plenty of classic films there," FF froze, realizing that by moving his stack to one hand, his treasure was openly exposed. Blushing, eyes as ever averted, he pulled out his wallet, whipped out the bill and handed (or rather threw) it to the startled cashier and took off at a very fast trot. He bristled as the cashier's voice called out to him
"Dear! Dear! Wait up a moment!" FF slowly turned around, his face burning all over. The avian had risen, she was running over to him. "You gave me a five, dear- You forgot your change," She said kindly, with a smile, holding out the four extra bills.
"Oh." FF took them awkwardly, "Right. Sorry..."
"It's perfectly fine dear, don't apologize," The cockatoo patted his shoulder with a wing, then she leaned closer and whispered, "We all need a little nostalgia to bring us back to better times every once in a while. Enjoy your movie, honey..." And she returned to the cashier's table with a cheery wave to FF.
After a few dazed moments, FF smiled and returned the wave before setting off for home.

Well that was... Er, rather boring wasn't it? *sigh*
...
It's sort of a fictional dramatization... I dunno...

o-o I have to say...I'm stunned by the sheer...just...wow. You shouldn't be guilty at all, cause this looks like it took a lot of time and effort! I mean, your inking and coloring have certainly improved as it clearly shows in this picture, from the deep dark shadows to the vibrant whites balancing off one another so well. Fiction Fox (who I admit, the coloring through me off that he was a fox, but he looks quite adorable, with that color scheme, so pros and cons I guess), looks so pleased by letting himself enjoy a bit of nostalgia (and yes, Agumon plushie! Very cute ;D). Having grown up as a fan of Digimon (shame it never got on as big as Pokemon did...still around, at least), I can certainly appreciate the attention to detail and nods to Boltro's nostalgic favorites (That, and I enjoyed the first movie too. Still got some nice quotes bouncing around in my noggin from it >.>; ). As for the backstory attached to it, its not boring at all, as I think it does go perfectly with the picture, especially the cockatoo's whispered assurance, which I thought was a nice little cap to the whole thing.
I'm excited to see what more you'll come up with, but I hate seeing you all tense up *hugs the koopa, and pats his back* Don't feel so guilty or unsure of yourself and work because it takes a little while. Things got pretty busy when I graduated from college, and things are STILL pretty hectic. So, if it takes you a lot of time to put your work together, I think everyone will understand (cause I mean *points to the above* that is certainly some great quality work). So cheer up, little buddeh, and know you did a fantastic job =D I'm sure Boltro will be more than pleased by what you've come up with!

OH. MY. GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is so amazing, Koopus!
You have a perfect up to the last detail cover of Digimon: The Movie, the Later J banner in the back, and an absolutely perfect adaptation of the Fiction Fox into your style! I don't know what else I can say; it's absolutely perfect and incredibly amazing!
Thank you so much!!!!!

Heeeeey I remember that movie.
.....
Huh this forced me to remember I was more into Digimon as a kid than Pokemon. I found the creatures from pokemon more interesting, but was rather fascinated by the ideas of the battles being for survival, and the kids actually fighting with their digimon instead of it all being for sport.
Also, that most definitely looks like a fox. :p I don't think you're doing anything wrong with how you draw canids. :p

Heh, glad you figured it out ^^;
I often have a little story in the submission description that may or may not include the actual advertised regression... Just to give it a little... depth, I suppose. Stories often blossom spontaneously from illustrations I do, so these little vignettes are my way of expanding them if only a wee, tiny bit.
Thanks for the comment!
