Inspired by the song "Anal Staircase" by Coil, this is mainly a bit of more practice with combining markers and pencils and using a limited palette... here it's red, black, white, grey, and light brown.
The piece was also inspired by the fear of roller coasters and other amusement park rides people sometimes have. Er, not me of course, I love roller coasters hehe, but I do know people that hate them, like my mom.
Anyways, my goal was to create a "ride" that nobody would want to get on, basicly. I mean, something about this contraption doesn't seem very safe... maybe it's the saw blades at the top...
Oh and furry depicted is that of a kudu. And that is a chaos star, slight reference to the band Coil and... well I just love the symbol now.

Very atmospheric piece.
I'll bet you could sell the design to Six Flags :).
I used to be terrified of coasters, until I went on Space Mountain at Disneyland for the first time when I was 15. I've loved them ever since.
The last one to really scare me was Riddler's Revenge at Six Flags Magic Mountain. The coaster itself was intense but fun, but the lift kind of freaked me out. You're standing up in this really wide car on this really narrow track, going up a steep, tall incline verrrrrrrry slowwwwwwwwly (or at least, so it seemed to me) <shudder :D>
My mother doesn't like them either. She gets motion sickness, and gets freaked out by the little drops on Pirates of the Carribean.

ahaha, awesome stuff. limited palets are always a good choice. you create a dark atmosphere very well. the figure has a nice victorian feel to him, the sky helps that look as well. awesome job depicting the light falling on the chaos star, depicting the way light falls is not easy but you wouldnt know that looking at this peice. keep up the good work rimpala.
"The story behind the background scuffles and squeals on The Anal Staircase is equally odd. 'A tape was sent to us by a guy who's sort of a fan of ours,' Christopherson says. 'It's the sound of him playing with his son. But because of the title of the song and the rather explicit nature of some of the lyrics, we thought it would be interesting to counterpoint the tape's harmless sound with a lyric that had other overtones, to see if it would change the listener's perception of this little kid laughing and saying things like, 'My legs are starting to sweat.' Immediately one begins to think that there's something going on, some sort of torture scene."
"In the darkness the the cellar and the naturally shifty gaze of the warehouse conductor, I knew I was in for a terrible, terrible trip. I should have known better than to take my chances down here, to view this instrument of torment that the stagehands had so gleefully reminisced. And there before me it stood, glimmering with shadows, steam bellowing out of its preposterously violent shafts and wheels, and to top it off so nicely, the conductor glared stoicly at me with his red spectacles, and beckoned with a single, piercing glance and one cane bidding me towards the stairs."
Random writing for a deliciously dark picture. Alas, I wish I were so dark as to enjoy the sado-masochistic benefits of such music. This image recieves my favorite for mechanical reasons. (Robots are great, but this does very nicely.)
