This is a green-wing macaw that happened to be grooming himself while this photo was taken. However, I think it looks quite like a sort of elaborate, mesmerizing dance.

Seeing a photo like this, it is no wonder that the Aztec's dance influences and regalia were based off some of these birds- as you said, looks like a natural dace.

You can discover amazing things if you take the time to observe animals... many indigenous people (as you must know) had the wisdom to do that. I'm preaching to the choir here, but it's a concept I love and always try to keep in mind.
