The belief system of Underworld is transcendence through the transformative transference from one state of being to the next, namely: from life to death. But there are many forms of life and death. In Underworld there are a multitude of variances but the grandest divergence in this school of thought is that between the Dead and the Undead. Contrary to popular belief, in Underworld they are not one in the same. The Dead are your more common residents of Underworld, not that they are common in ability but common in rarity. The dead are the animated corpses, possessed by their departed spirits; hence the overlay of a ghostly visage on any damaged or missing portions of the body. The Undead are those that have experienced a conflicting aspect in the transition, resulting in a corpse that possesses no soul and is instead animated by the hunger of death, for LIFE. In this sense we have examples of Zombies, Vampires and the like which crave to consume living tissue.
Carrion is that of the Dead, a Withered to be precise (most common form of Dead) and has gone to great lengths to not only follow the belief system of death but has mastered the use of ectoplasm in order to create living Death without the curse of Undeath.
