A/N: Here it is, the final chapter! I commissioned art of Casey's final appearance from my good friend

“Entry seven, day ten. Height: 4'11”. Weight: 90 lbs. I think I'm getting close to the end of this project,” Casey says matter-of-factly. He is in his room on Earth; his body is more Hyleft than human, though some human features remain, mostly on his face and back, which is left exposed by the traditional hyleft clothing he is still wearing. That being said, the beginnings of fins can be seen barely protruding from his spine, beginning at the base of his neck and continuing down to near the tip of his tail. “My foster parents have finished laminating all my books, and they added some plastic flaps to make turning the pages easier with Hyleft hands. I'm leaving the rest of my stuff here to anyone in the group home who wants it, though.
“To be perfectly honest, I was really scared at first with regards to the whole transformation thing. I mean, who wouldn't be scared to know that they were going to turn into something else, and that they would never be able to turn back, ever? That you'd have to leave your world behind because it wouldn't have any place for you once you changed completely? Now, though... I think I'm ready. Don't get me wrong—it's still going to be tough, saying goodbye. But I'm not scared anymore. In fact, part of me is... looking forward to it.
“One of the challenges of being an orphan is that the longer you go without being adopted, the less likely it is that anyone will adopt you at all. I'm fifteen, and there aren't many families on Earth who are looking for someone my age. My foster parents are nice, but it's not the same; they care for me, just like every other kid here, but... something about it always felt incomplete. Ever since this all began, though, I've started to feel like maybe this is what I've always wanted deep down. I'm finally being adopted. I'll have a little sister, I'll have a big brother... and I'll have a mom.” Casey smiles, but it's a smile of both sadness and joy. “'Mom'... it feels nice to say that word. Like a dream come true. Like I had a hole in me that's finally being filled.
“Tomorrow is the big festival. I've been practicing the water bells, and I'm going to be playing them at the festival as part of the ceremonies. In a way, it'll be my official welcome to Beryl Ravine, as a true Hyleft. I'll be playing music in honor of the rain that feeds our farms, that drives the currents of our rivers and streams, that ensures that we never lack for the water we use for magic; in honor of the rain that our people... our people... are blessed with.
“'Our people'... that's another thing I like saying now. I finally belong to something. To somewhere. I'm leaving Earth... but at the same time, I'm coming home. And everyone watching these videos can celebrate that homecoming. Before I go, I have one last thing to show you...”
Casey turns the camera around to reveal the water bells, with a bucket of water nearby and a plastic mat underneath. “I'm going to play my part from the festival for you. So you can hear it and remember me by it.”
He calls up the water, and begins to play, singing as he does so. The words he sings are in the language of the Hyleft... but his expression and delivery make the meaning clear as water. The shimmering ring of the bells add to the feelings of joy and belonging that he puts into every syllable he sings. As he finishes the song, the fins on his back finally appear and his face slowly begins to change color to match his body. Grabbing the bag full of his books and placing his other hand on the water bells, he smiles at the camera one last time.
“Thank you guys. For looking after me all these years. For teaching me, for feeding me, for giving me a bed to sleep in, for never letting me give up on the hope of being adopted. I'll never forget any of you, or the things you've given me. But... it's time now. I'm going home. I'm finally going home.
“End of entry seven. Thank you, and goodbye.”
I give the voice command to turn off the phone for the last time, and call upon the magic that binds me to my new home. Before I know it, I'm back in Beryl Ravine, the water bells and my bag of books having traveled with me.
“So... you're here for good, then?”
I turn to see my family standing nearby. “Yeah,” I respond, “I'm home, Tele.”
Kala practically leaps at me with a wide grin. “Kesi! Kesi! I got a new big brother! Yay!”
“And I have the best little sister in the world,” I say. “And the best big brother...”
I look over to see a warm smile and open arms. I run over and share the loving embrace that I'd been missing all my life. “...And the best mom.”
“Welcome home, sweetie. Welcome home.”
