Originally written and plotted in '07 as I was breaking up with someone I'd been
with for six years.
My plan this summer is to step up my painting before September. In keeping
with that, I went out and got a bunch of canvases to work on. I want to get
my hands messy after toiling in the pixel mines for the past few months with Ironclaw.
Then I was thinking: Okay fine, but why leave that stuff behind? For that
project, I had developed a certain way of working and a consistent look;
something very hard for me to do over a long series of images. Why let
that drop? More than anything, the aesthetic discipline was the big level
up for me.
So while I get back to painting, I want to keep up some sort of serial project
to take what I was doing digitally and push that along as well. I would like to
be able to achieve an overall synthesis of my digital and real media, rather
than have them compartmentalized. This is an effort along those lines.
Anyway, the comic is already sketched and scripted. So it should just be a
matter of rendering the pages, which frees my mind and fingers to crank on
the pixels. This is going to be my ongoing "side project" for the summer.
So yeah, it's a 32 page book. Here we go...

Just from this single page I know I will be raptly following it even more-so than your Ironclaw project. I feel as if the shot of the wrist and bracelet looks a little distorted and less clear than the shot of the decaying hospital - not sure what I would call the effect, but it's interesting, almost as if seen through tears [or illness].

Seeing this reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYU1TjCm3_4
And that's a good thing. I just love the devastated atmosphere of it and it intrigues me. Can't wait to see more! :D

So 1) was the comic idea around before you decided "hey, I want to keep using the stuff that I played with for the Ironclaw stuff" or was it more something you came up with to go with continuing the style as a limited short project? And 2) I'm curious, what've you got planned traditional media wise, since you still have the canvases?
