Yosh was so excited to be a ‘Big Kid’. He wasn’t in any particular rush to ascend to the rank of ‘Preschooler’, but he knew it would make his parents happy. He’d have to give up diapers and be more responsible by transitioning to underwear through training pants, but it was going to make mommy and daddy happy…
…Then she hatched…
Yosh’s parents did all the typical things parents do to excite their children over having a baby brother, or sister. However the timing of Winry’s hatching could not have been worse.
***
The first difficulty Yosh had was having to leave behind his friend, Toroth, as a result of the little blue dragon not having yet showed readiness for the potty. He knew Nishi and Zee-Zee had advanced and would be there, but leaving behind some friends he did not want to leave behind to take on a whole new world of responsibilities and expectations was scary.
Then there were the bullies. Nishi, Zee-Zee, Tacki, and others could not always be around due to their particular expectations as preschoolers. This left the dino-duck vulnerable to children who sought someone to take their aggressions out on and who better than the weird pudgy kid who would wet and/or mess himself and start crying at any sign of conflict?
***
Yosh’s parents tried to reassure him that he wasn’t anything the bullies said to and about him. They also made sure to remind their green-and-white colored child that what was said were just words and only Yosh himself knew what it was to be Yosh.
Sadly, this did not work as the bullies simply turned Yosh’s efforts in asserting himself as a challenge to increase their negative actions. The white-feathered preschooler was told to tell a teacher, or caretaker, if such bullying occurred. However, after getting one bully in trouble, he found himself thrown and trapped inside a dark closet by the bully’s buddies.
***
As this all happened, Yosh noticed his parents spending far more time with his baby sister, who had hatched at his current size, than they did with him. They held her, cuddled her, fed her, and put her into very bright and happy clothing. Yosh knew enough to not do anything mean to his baby sister, who was yellow in color, largely covered in feathers, and had their mother’s Yoshi snout, but it still made him feel very unhappy. Especially when his mother and father had to explain how boys wear and play with different things than girls. This was a ‘social norm’, but one that only created more sadness in the meek preschooler.
***
The cycle of bad days at school and sad nights at home started to wear at Yosh. He wanted what his sister had. He wanted what his friends back in daycare had. He was tired of being the, to him, only target of abuse by those looking to hurt his feelings, trap him in closets, and block him from making it to the potty before things happened to ruin his ‘Big Kid Chart’ at school.
***
The dino-duck with the three red and curved spikes at the back of his head felt it was time to take matters into his own hands. He knew Phoebe, another hybrid kid, was still in daycare despite being as smart and ready to advance as he was. He also knew that Sonya, a brown bear, found pleasure in making messes in her training pants with no shame in doing so despite her positioning in the preschool section. Neither of these two were, as Yosh saw it, put up to such horrible standards that made him feel more lonely along with open to daily bullying.
***
Just before Yosh’s fourth birthday, a plan came into motion. His young mind had concluded that it was better to be a girl and a girl is what he was going to be. He also was not going to give the bullies a chance to make him feel like he wasn’t able to make it to the potty. Instead he would just go into the closets when he felt he could hold his bowels and bladder no more and ‘push his frustrations out’ into his ‘big boy’ pants.
***
With his sister, Winry, being the same size as he was, Yosh started to swipe clothes from her nursery and would plead with his parents to wear a bow in his head spikes. He wanted to trade dragons for ponies and shorts for skirts. This, of course, was viewed as a setback in his development and required a trip to his pediatrician. The pediatrician, not able to get much out of Yosh beyond how he hated being a boy and wanted to be a girl, believed the dino-duck was just going through a phase that needed to be worked through in order to resume his masculine development. The pediatrician also recommended Yosh be taken in for ‘Play Therapy’ to help better understand what triggered his current perception of the world.
Once the results had been gathered and reviewed between his therapist and pediatrician, it was decided that it was in his best interest that Yosh should return to the daycare region of Quack-Quack’s Learning Farm. He would be allowed to wear his sister’s clothes and revert back to wearing diapers. The latter was just done for how expensive training pants were and how the blue-eyed dino-duck just stopped even trying for the potty in recent weeks.
***
At this point in the story, Yosh is wearing his very last pair of training pants. His parents are hopeful he will try and turn things around, but Yosh already has been preparing to really fill out this last garment that represented what he had come to resent from being put where he was miserable and not getting the love he had once gotten prior to the hatching of his sister.
It would only be through his sister that, at age five, Yosh would be given the proper motivation to potty train, return to his more masculine clothing, and reenter school as a kindergartner. However, with his memories still vivid of how he felt as a girl, Yosh would always desire to wear clothing that was ‘forbidden’ to him while having a strong desire to wear a diaper when he felt his anxiety was being pushed over the limits.

So it's not just ponies and diapers then? Interesting to know hes got a liking for girls clothes. Is it just the connection to being love on and babies like his sister or does he particularly like skirts? Just curious mainly for art reasons. I dont believe hes ever been drawn in a skirt has he. Wondering if should change that.
Yosh's been in a skirt at least twice!

But I don't think anyone'd mind if it happens more!

Oh! I'll find the picture and, based on the description, I will send it to you via e-mail. (It's tough when you know how 'cub art' may be misinterpreted beyond the adult behind the little. Fleshing out Yosh has 'suggestive' things that, through good advice, I have done what I can to ensure proper ratings.)
Yep, yep, yep! *Snugs* And, even before this aspect of Yosh's past was as fleshed out, Nishi would have lots of fun in the malls getting Yosh all skirted and lady-like. (I have some ideas for short-short stories that happen during this time that I want to write and share in how Nishi and Winry have their fun with the little quicker)
Well, Yosh made the connection between girls, like his baby sister, not being bullied and pushed around like he was. He then built up resentment for being, to him, forced to be a boy when those who teased him made fun of him within the group of boys. (He is able to see how the barriers put up between males and females are not as evident back in the daycare area)
Yosh, during his time as a girl, finds himself being treated nicer and feeling a lot better about himself. This leaves an imprint that, despite being made to enter into the 'male social norm', he feels an affinity for skirts, bows, and pastels. He gets along more with girls than boys and, as he gets older, goes through a lot of confusion for why his fellow dudes seem to not accept him while the ladies think he's great.
Nishi has, and does, like dressing Yosh in girls clothing. So, even after Yosh is returned to the 'path of a boy', Nishi still finds ways to make him into a girl. Winry enjoys doing this, too.

Aww, good job! The artwork is really cute - pudgy-cheeked, very fluffy, with a good duck beak and squinty lil eyes like they have. Hehe it suits ya! The lil blue dragon on the front'a his (or her) diapers look like Toroth a bit too.
Good lil summary and story of Yosh going through their girly phase and interest! There's a lot appealing about being a girl, getting proper attention, more care, fully enjoying cute soft things - can totally see why Yosh would want it even beyond the situation with Winry and their parents. Definitely a cute ducky regardless~!

Very glad you liked this, Oxnard. This was my first art by Orange Tabby and, as with all those I get to know, I love giving creative freedom for them to use their thoughts, feelings, and pure talent to give a take on Yosh that, very well, could become part of his canon form. :)
*Blushes* Nishi has been getting Yosh in ladies clothes for quite a long time. He's also caught Yosh wearing girly clothes when the dino-duck thinks nobody is watching... with a camera. *Deeper blush*

It seems your desires to be a girl come from the lack of validation you've felt as a boy. When people feel properly validated in the sex they're born in, I suspect few find incentive to try changing gender -- or to abandon the concept.
As for me, I believe boys and girls are supposed to be far more alike than not. I try to see how much I can push the boundaries without being unfaithful to Jesus.

You are very correct in your assumption, Starburst. I was frequently told directly and indirectly about how I was terrible and not wanted in typical male situations. I also never felt my father was proud of me for me as he tried to push a lot of his unfulfilled life goals on to me.
I, growing up and to this day, have more female friends than male friends. It is odd feeling more welcome with women and pushed aside by fellow males. (Online is my only exception)

As for faith, God seems to have a way to let me know if I am getting too close to crossing a line. I am working quite hard to get better at not needing his abrupt guidance as, well, those learning moments tend to be quite emotionally painful. I learn, but I would rather not learn the hard way. :)

Interestingly, the main stallions in my work have mostly mares for friends. Ironically, this common ground makes these stallions the best of friends.
I think of how Thorax feels like a male Fluttershy. He is normally gentle and kind, but he could suddenly lash out. In my own work, as I mentioned before, I am developing my own parody of the Mane 6. I'm thinking, my parody of Fluttershy will be a stallion named Dragonshy Flutterstrike.
Unlike with Yosh, Dragonshy has been bullied by both boys and girls. He was bullied by his little sister and his own parents. He lived in perhaps the most rotten neighborhood of the Starpony Kingdom. Most of the kingdom isn't like this place -- but this early experience makes him fear the world in general.
For "Rainbowbarf" and her girlfriends, Dragonshy was the first stallion they'd had for a close friend. On the surface, he feels gentle and kind. Deep inside, unfortunately, is a monster that wants to be the alpha male.
When Dragonshy gets bullied by one too many girls, he's in danger of becoming not only a bully himself -- but also one who hates women. The two major incidents are to parody "The Best Night Ever" and "Putting Your Hoof Down". The first displays his potential violence to animals; the second displays how broken he really is all around.
I'd been wondering whom to ship Nightlight with. Maybe there would be chemistry between her and Dragonshy. When Dragonshy realizes he's a bad pony, this would be a great chance for Nightlight to show her own growth as a friend. Recognizing that she's been a bad pony, too, the two can support each other.
They don't have to be the best role models for each other. They just need to love and support each other. In the end, the love of friendship is its own best teacher.

Love the ideas and the idea of Night Light having a chance to find some pony who she can use her newly developed abilities in friendship to warm the heart of another while, at the same time, discovering her comfort in opening up to some pony who is not her closest friend, parent, sibling, or Sky Sparkle.
Would Dragonshy be from the same region that your version of Scootaloo will be from? I remember you telling me about a particular region where crime and cruelty is running a tad rampant.

Yes, from Foalstown, an independent town embedded in Equopolis. Foalstown is historically a major hub for the city’s commerce, which has given it disproportionate influence. Lately, buildings and facilities have been falling into decay — thanks in large part to the reputation it gained over time.
Fun — or not-so-fun — fact: Skyscooter was once a papercolt who would throw papers through the windows of non-subscribers. The local paper itself was a protection racket. When Skyscooter gains a proper job in Friendsville, he has to be taught what honest work looks like.
Dragonshy was once part of a group of Foal Scouts who would extort neighbors into buying their goods. He was spared the dirtier work, consigned mainly to counting money and inventory. He was squeamish about committing crimes, but he felt compelled to have the protection of the gang. He was part of one of the nicer groups, kids getting mainly into petty mischief.
For Dragonshy’s voice, I was thinking something between Spike’s, Thorax’s, and maybe Fluttershy’s voices.

Sky Scooter sounds like he played Paperboy on the NES, SNES, N64, or at the Arcade. (You could throw papers at non-subscriber windows to get them to become customers. This makes no sense, but it does in your character's situation.)
It is interesting how you are making Foalstown kind of like a haven for crime in how it, sadly, requires you to be a part of one of the gangs. This was exactly how it was for kids in the town I lived in within North Carolina. Very depressing, but true. :(

Actually, Paperboy gave me inspiration for how a mob-run newspaper might work (especially in a family-friendly cartoon). Perhaps that video game was inspired by real-world racketeering.
How did you ever learn not to throw out integrity in the name of survival? Or are you still figuring it out?
When are you being complicit with evil? And when are you just negotiating the best situation possible? A corrupt government is like a legalized mob, and mobs are like illegal governments. I mustn't be forced to do dirty work -- yet I must support what gives the best form of peace and order.
I think that was what Dragonshy was trying to do. Skyscooter might have been more misguided, though.

Also... I just want to let you know. You may have been assigned the identity "boy" at birth. Youcan still be comfortable being a boy while wearing and expressing yourself however you want. You can just be a girl. Or not either gender. Or any gender.
There was a post on a FB group I follow that said "“If you’re under the assumption that you’re a cis guy but have always dreamed of being a girl, and the only reason you haven’t transitioned is because you’re afraid you’ll be an “ugly” girl: That’s dysphoria. You’re literally a trans girl already, hon.” that's resonated with a lot of folks.
For me, it was someone would said years ago "if you ever think to yourself 'this feels like dysphoria but it can't be because I am cisgender' just cut that sentence in half".

I appreciate hearing more of your thoughts on this matter, Toroth. It is certainly one I delve into from time-to-time given life circumstances.
Since posting this, I have talked with my therapist on how I am comfortable with how, by social standards, I have more female traits than male traits. Male body with feeling good in exhibiting female associated emotions, desires, etc. This has allowed me to have far more fun when it comes to the consideration of what to write and how to not be down on myself.
About six months ago, I came across a pair of duckling snap-crotch shorts. What I did not realize is that, if you unbutton the shorts, you have a skirt! You can bet I love wearing that when I have the chance to do so.
I am also glad you have transitioned back to work and feel free to openly share the real you. I am sure that you feel a lot better after having some time away from the insanity to fortify your well-being while getting to take a step back to see how to ensure you have more positives than negatives in your daily life.

Tee-hee. :) I'm glad you like this. Plinkers was one of the last artists I was able to see art from before I lost what was left of my eyesight.

Sorry for falling behind on notes. It is nothing personal. I just have been trying to keep up with a lot of RL stuff. Getting more caught now. :)
