There's always one. A helper. Someone in the group of prey who turns on their own kind and helps the predator. Sometimes it's caused by fear. After all, they're absolutely not escaping the predator's clutches. The only way out is if the predator lets them leave. And the easiest way to the heart is making sure they have a full stomach. But sometimes a helper genuinely wants to help. Some prey are attracted to the dominance and gluttony of predators. They just want to stay outside long enough to watch them gorge themselves. A front row seat to the show they've always wanted.
But sometimes it's both. That's what Montague's run into while gobbling up a class of bunnies. One of them promised to help Montague gobble their classmates in exchange for being let go. Not that Montague needed the help, but it's always nice to have a lackey. And he could see that blush under their white fur. He let his little helper feed him their friends like grapes. He let the eager little thing rub his feathery gut. He even let them press the last set of kicking legs past his grinning beak and into the darkness.
And then, it was only them and Montague. There was never a question of what was going to happen next. If the bunny thought otherwise, they were fooling themselves. Besides, Montague can hear the shy desire between those stammering words. Scared as they are, he knows the little morsel can't resist. If he lets them go, they'll spend the rest of their life wishing they'd taken the plunge. Besides, Montague isn't full yet.
Some time later, Montague has helped himself to even more bunnies. More classes, maybe the whole school, maybe the whole town! As his tummy's churning them into their new home, a satisfied belch brings up a familiar bow. Awww, it seems like his little helper wanted to say goodbye. He's so happy to have met such an agreeable bunny. It seems they're settling in nicely. A little softer and squishier than they used to be, but no less pleasant.
Thanks for the help, little bunny!
