But to defend the members that posted below you, isn't NY Furs suppose to represent the whole state, not the city?

It would.........If more could come. So far, it truly has been mostly those closest to nyc.

Cause the meets are in NYC. Others can't come cause of money/transportation issues.

This i know quite well. The other flag doesn't suit the group at all, and as such, a unless we have furmeets outside of nyc, or others decide to have furmeets wherever they have enough people, then its not going to matter. Neither flag works.

Here's an idea..........WHY NOT JUST USE THE STATE FLAG LIKE THE REST.*points to past AC parades and the flags*Since this is currently the ONLY official NYFurs group, i say use the state flag and just leave it at that.

If you wanna put your money on a state flag, by all means. But with many of us here, we want to show something that's original so it says "Hey, we're NY Furs" and not just "Hey, we're from NY"

I'm all up for being unique, but in this case, it may be smarter to just stick with the state flag. Because, if we honestly think about it, if its the state flag then if it gets damaged or lost, it isn't a huge hassle to replace. Quick and easy are better than originality and flare sometimes. Its too short a time before this year's AC as is.

If time doesn't permit us to get the flag, then I'll scrap the idea till next AC. And replacing the flag is actually quite easy if it's damaged/lost. (Thank you computerized printing).

I like the Apple, though the state would be more all inclusive. The apple is more a symbol of the city and might give the impression that we're just "NYC Furs".

As much as I'd like to vote on this one, I'm going to abstain, courteously(*).

As some have stated, "The Big Apple" conveys NYC = NYS.... and being from the other end of the state (Buffalo), we out here know that's unfair at best.

The NYS w/ Paw doesn;t feel right to me either - it feels... unfinished, somehow.

With respect to the accountholders, I'd love to see a free-for-all submission contest of sorts to have a number of ideas to banter over for a while, too. Maybe set the deadline for Whenever The Damned State Budget Gets Passed.

Well deadline has to be about 2 weeks before AC (at least i hope so). If anyone wants to draw out or shoot another idea, they're free to.

I'm going to Second Shujin's choice not because I feel like being exactly like him but because I agree. I live in the rochester area of New york and where I am, NYC to us is pretty much 'On the other side of the world'. The two 'cultures' if you will are pretty different.

Perhaps we should look for something that reflects New York as a whole, Like using our state animal or something around those lines

I'm pretty sure that the state animal is a Beaver but I might be wrong, So don't quote me on that.

I understand that concern, reason why I pushed hard to pass the 1st flag (more NYS-ish) before making the Apple flag.

I like the state animal idea, but there are problems with that. When first designing the flag, I did want to use the state animal (which indeed is the Beaver). The problem, however, was that it's not iconic enough. Flags need to have a rememberable, simple, yet representative icon. Beavers (or any animal actually) tend to be too complex, even if silhouetted. And many furs might even think we're representing a BeaverFurs group, and we don't want to give that misconception.

That's why the State Flag (voted out very early), the State itself, and an Apple (even if it does represent the city more than state) were used. But NYFurs are open up to more suggestions on ideas and (preferably) drawn designs.

I see your point and thinking about it that Way I do have to agree. While animals would represent the state as a whole It might be very hard to pull off.

Perhaps, We should try something along the lines of what Jakebluepaw said, I honestly like his Idea and would support that. I'm a horrible artist myself otherwise I'd cook up some pictures myself. I'll try and to that anyway and link it back to you just to see what you like or what you would rather see.

Hope it does go well though, Proud to be a New yorker and plan to for a long while
