“Counselor Starlight?” moped a very sad dragon-duck. “I really could use some help.”
The periwinkle-colored Unicorn, now familiar with her School Counselor duties, gently lead the green-and-white colored creature to a couch and sat him alongside a plush pillow before draping a weighted blanket over his back.
“Just take a moment to feel the comfort of the pillow and blanket,” she stated while heading behind her desk and grabbing a notepad. “Now, tell me what is making you feel bad?”
The dragon-duck nervously fidgeted his fingers while rocking himself on the couch. Starlight caught on to this and offered up a ‘Worry Stone’.
“Rub that,” she said. “It helps take away worries when you rub it.”
“Really?” he asked while feeling the smooth surface of the stone.
“You tell me,” she smiled as the dragon-duck took to rubbing the therapeutic tool and had stopped rocking himself.
“How do I keep from coming off like Cozy Glow?” he asked while focusing on the ‘Worry Stone’. “I seem to always get myself in situations where other creatures get upset with me for being a ‘toxic friend’ and don’t know how I keep doing it.”
Starlight sipped from her cup of ‘Empathy Cocoa’, which helped her feel easier during the performance of her job, and thought for a moment.
“You’ve talked with Doodle Noodle in canterlot, right?” she asked.
Yosh nodded and continued to rub the rock.
“I do,” he sighed. “But I’m in Ponyville right now and Gallus told me I’ve been nothing but a pain since I first met him.”
“Well, griffons are not known for their patience,” she stated. “Not that it makes the situation any bit better, but did you consider how he felt about your approach to friendship?”
Yosh sighed and whimpered.
“I thought I did,” he replied somberly. “However he didn’t tell me until just yesterday and that was over a month after we met here in the school.”
The Unicorn mare doodled on her notepad for a moment.
“Fitting in is hard,” she stated. “I know you want to be every creature’s friend. However, as hard as it is to accept, not every creature can be friends with, well, every creature.”
“Is that bad?” worried Yosh as he faced towards Starlight.
“Oh, no,” she replied in a soft tone. “It just means you need to learn from what happened with gallus to see where you could have done better while also knowing he, too, is struggling in making friends.”
The white-feathered, dragon-duck rubbed the stone in a steady rhythm.
“Why can’t other creatures just be honest with me?” he asked. “I feel I would feel better if a creature told me I was annoying, or they were not interested in being friends, before I feel there is a friendship and, well, you know.”
Starlight nodded as she used her magic to adjust the blanket so it better swaddled the green-scaled youngster.
“Every creature wants to be nice,” she stated. “However the kindness can have some little hints in it to let you know that you may be taking things just a bit too far.”
“What kind of hints?” Yosh inquired while crossing his legs.
“Well,” she started to say while thinking on her past experiences. “Perhaps if I shared some of my own moments of being in your shoes it would help better show what I mean?”

Yosh started to sob a bit after hearing of Starlight’s experiences with Sunburst.
“I think,” he sniffled. “I think I understand.”
The periwinkle Unicorn levitated a box of tissues over to Yosh.
“It’s not easy to feel like you are not what someone wanted in a friend,” she stated. “Though it doesn’t mean that creature doesn’t like you at all.”
Yosh blew his beak free of snot before getting another tissue to dab at his eyes.
“I guess,” he sniffled. “I still have a lot to learn about friendship.”
The guidance counselor offered a warm smile.
“No creature is perfect,” she said. “Though it is important to see moments, such what I had with Sunburst and you had with gallus, as ways to improve how we are towards others while not taking it, well, so, personally.”
Yosh looked towards Starlight and allowed his feet to dangle normally over the couch.
“I think I understand,” he said. “Though, it doesn’t make the hurt go away.”
“It’s okay to feel hurt in times like this,” assured Starlight. “Just remember to give yourself time to think more on what happened, use your relaxation techniques, and try not to get yourself in a place where you may say, or do, things you may regret out of fear of losing your friends.”

“There you are!” announced Silver Stream, who was a Hippogriff, while bursting into Counselor Starlight’s office. “Yona and I want to help you feel better after what happened back there with Gallus.”
Yosh looked towards Starlight as she assured him it was okay to go. Remembering the hard times with Sunburst made her feel uneasy, too. However, as a counselor and friendship student under Twilight’s wing, she knew that sometimes healing required a little hurting to make everything better.
