I was struck with some inspiration, and so, somewhere between my 11 hour shifts over the last two days, I made this doodle.
I came up with an idea for a character, this character, in a situation, this situation, and really grew connected to him. I just had to draw him in some awesome action scene... and maybe... just maybe... what comes after. Because this is actually moments before he is struck with an EMP blast and captured.
Of course, I haven't decided on a name yet. I was thinking something that maybe starts with an X. Xias or Xaia. Not sure how I feel about those yet.
I think I got the color balance right... though I'm not sure about the lighting/shading.
I might post his story -- it's probably one of the most interesting stories I've come up with since the Twillai -- and how it all ties into the rest of my little universe... later. Now, I must sleep. -_-

He's a lot more durable than his clothing, so, in combat, it's usually the first thing that gets ripped to shreds :P
I just wish I had the know-how and patience to make it more detailed. Every time I try to draw technology it always ends up looking like something from Apple.

Nice action shot, great expression. :P The blur is a bit excessive, but it still works for what it's supposed to portray.
From a composition standpoint, it'd probably be more balanced if it were a landscape rectangle as opposed to a square. Show a little more empty space on the right to give us a feel for the size of the area he's in, though the close frame might have been your intention (a small space),
The suit looks like it's supposed to be high tech, and it meets this role, but I would try in the future to really look at the object you're drawing and try to envision how it does what it does in a way that is easy to eschew by looking at it. For instance, if it's some form of armour that has a shielding of some sort, a channel, some sort of glowing spot, would give us the instant idea that "hey, that's got some shielding." Whereas for an armour, you want to try and make it a bit more bulky. There's also a general trend towards flatter surfaces when using armour, and rounder ones when using shielding, but I've seen them worked the other way. In any case, it could simply be an outfit worn, but in the situation it makes more sense to be an armour... to me.
I understand, though, that this was a 'doodle' as you said. It looks like a basic piece, that if looked at a little harder and refined would make a wonderful Science Fiction illustration. Sort of like the Concept before the final, though sometimes the concept is overcomplicated :P
Still though, a great addition to your Electronic Sketchbook, and a welcome hurrah from your awaiting fans :)
Also, he has circuit boards in his eyes o.O I just realized this on a fourth look xD Meaning he's probably some sort of Android, or Cyborg. See? The little things give you ideas about what the artist was trying to depict :)

I consider the blue laser blasts, the eyes, and the explosion in the background to be the successes of this picture. I'm glad you noticed his eyes. I decided not to say anything about them because I wanted to see if anyone picked up on that. The circuitry is actually enhancements made to his vision with nanotechnology. I guess you could call him a cyborg, but he's more of an organic creature infused with nanomachines. They are as much a part of him as his fur, but he can survive just fine without them, too. They are enhancements, basically. He's got some cool blue stripes that I wasn't really able to show off in this picture... you can kind of see them on his back and... eeek, I just noticed I forgot the stripes on his ears and leg. >.<
I think that, for me, the two major failures on this picture are the background and the character's armor. Those are the two things I spent the least amount of time on, after all. The canvas probably should be more of a rectangle, I agree. The canvas remained a square because that's what I started with, and I didn't bother resizing the character or cropping at all after I moved from Sai to Photoshop.
I definitely could have showed off more of the area he's in. Crash site? Junkyard? I wasn't really sure as I was drawing it, and didn't really decide until after it was done. For a while, the thing in front of the character had both concrete cracks on one side and metal tears on the other. Ultimately, I think it turned out to be concrete, but it looks more like a broken couch with burn marks on it.
But you're right, this was a relatively fast doodle intended to show off the character, more than anything else. The pose he's in is solely due to the fact that I no longer like how I draw legs, and was trying to hide them as best as I could. His tail... is levitating somehow, and is lacking color. I was still sort of designing this character even as I drew him. He was supposed to be sitting on uneven ground, I think, but wound up looking like he is in mid-crouch, kind of. Again, that's a failure of the background. I'm not unhappy with the pose itself.
I like how the explosion in the background turned out, though, as you said, it could be sharper. I didn't want it to appear too close, because then I would have had to mess with the lighting some more.
Anyway, I'm starting to ramble... my brain is kind of fried. :P

I actually have an image that has two sets of armor in it, one with shields and one without. It's a sorta crossover picture, but it gets more of the point across I suppose. It's from awhile back, so I don't really think much of it, but for an illustrative look at what I meant, here it is if you like :)

I hate it when I write out a whole comment, then close the browser without actually submitting it. :<
Anyway, I think it said something about how I think he is supposed to be wearing a kind of jumpsuit that has shoulder/elbow/kneepads, rather than a full suit of armor like the ones in your picture. Even so, probably couldn't have hurt to added more detail, in general.
I've considered redoing his armor and resubmitting the picture... but I think it's more likely that I'll just do a new picture... probably with nudity. Furries like nudity. That's probably why I have so little practice drawing armor. :P
I had other stuff in the comment too... but it's late... I'm tired...
