I finally got around to seeing Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland today and, despite some mumbled dialogue and showy CGI, I really, really enjoyed it. I enjoyed most of the characters (especially the überwonderful Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat), but none more so than the crazy-brave little dormouse Mallymkun. Her voice was absolutely perfect. Also, am i the only one who felt she'd fit right in in Labyrinth? She's kind of a tiny female Sir Didymus!
Anyway, I knew damn well I'd have to draw her. But as soon as that idea hit, I realized who she'd be perfectly paired with; that other courageous sword-weilding mouse, Despereaux! (That movie is soooooo underappreciated.)
So here they are, looking like they're about to team up on a grand adventure. I'm sure Despereaux will keep her from stabbing too many things in the eyeball. ;)
P.S. Normally CGI critters are really difficult to draw in 2D, but Mally was WAY more difficult to figure out than Despereaux. He was far more cooperative.

This is driving me crazy because I could have sworn her name was Mallyumkin, not Mallymkun. Before I saw the movie, I found a book about the movie at the bookstore, and I flipped through it a bit, and I remember seeing the name spelled as "Mallyumkin". And in the movie, it sure sounds like Alice calls her "Mally-UM-kin". But now, I do searches on both spellings, and "Mallymkun" is the one that seems to be official. It's driving me mad! Bonkers! Off my head!
Very cute picture, though. :}

The animals were about the only thing I liked about that movie. I came home wanting to draw Mallymkun but there's like NO PICTURES OF HER. Or there weren't when I last looked. Like, just one blurry promotional character shot.
... Mallymkun. Huh. Wondered what the hell her name was. Was only mumbled a few times. I just took to calling her "The Dormouse". For that matter, I wasn't even sure of her gender. I'm still not. You can never tell with mice. And the dress was kind of ambiguous.

Here's some I found:
Dormouse 1
Dormouse 2
Dormouse 3
Dormouse 4
Dormouse 5
Dormouse 6
Some are from the Wii game.
And yeah, the dialogue was a bit hard to understand at times.

that character was a real disappointment for me in that movie :( Here was a chance to make a very memorable amazing character, bad-assed in all it's right, and what did they do? They looked at Mallymkun, then copy pasted the rat guy from the Prince Caspian movie. It is pretty much the EXACT same character, just different texture and object mesh. Made me sad. so sad.
Nah. The majority never made it past planning.

>If she wasn't a "she" then she couldn't have given birth to me.
Well, I didn't say 'she' was exactly a 'he' either. Your mother is kind of a freakish gender hybrid, possessing several sets of male and female genetalia, all lumped together in a hair-covered pulsating mound. Some of the genitals are functionals, and others merely ooze.
But in the case of your birth, I'd say you probably came out of her butt.

Oh yea totally.
I've seen it before.
It emits lasers and acts as a time machine.
If you'd like to see it sometime, just ask.
