A crisp scent of ash and brimstone made the air thick with a dense fog causing it hard to even see the tip of one's nose let alone anything in the distance. Crunching leaves filled the darkness as they shattered under the hefty creatures slow moving feet. Traveling through what seems to be a very compacted forest for hours now; but slow progress was still progress despite being in such an unforgiving place.
Soft wisps of smoke rose in the air as the dense atmosphere started to clear up to reveal rings of flames with a light vision of fog left behind . Dancing embers moved across the grass like children on a playground, waltzed among the pine needles in the trees but these tiny fires caused no damage to the world around it yet was still hot to the touch. Not wanting to push it's luck the creature paid the scenes around him little to no mind and carried on the path ahead.
Even though he still doesn't know what he is even looking for or why he is in this place.
"Hello?" The creatures voice echoed for miles which in turn meant there was nothing for this sound to bounce off of so no signs of safety were close by. By this point irritation started to build rather rapidly.
"Hello?! Anybody!?! Where am I!?!" With a anger filled groan escaping its throat it fell to its knees against the ground as its talons dug into the sides of its head in pure frustration. Demented whispers started to ride on the soft gusts of wind; surrounding this creature.
"Lost again?"
"Have you given up yet?"
"Failed again?"
"Why are you still going?"
"Just stop."
"Pathetic."
"No one is looking for you."
"You are a fool."
An echoing snarl erupts shaking this world around them in hopes to silence the voices. As the ground rumbling ends the creature slowly opens its eyes, a sight lying before them caused the talons to release its head relieving the wounds they have inflicted upon themselves.
Below them sat a single red cardinal fluttering its beautiful crimson red wings to wiggle about their feathers which some how silenced the voices. With one gentle movement the small bird flapped its way atop the creatures head; pecking a few times as if it was building a nest, soon wiggling its butt it settle down in said new nest.
This large creature laid down upon the ground to rest it's tired mind as well as its aching feet. It wasn't long at all before slumber drifted them away.
Rustling its way down between its neck and shoulder the bird too settled in; looking as if this small fragile animal was standing guard over the quite hefty scary creature lying beneath it.
A soft voice gently broke through the darkness engulfing the two:
"You will never be alone.."
