When the Phantom Thieves decided to tackle a challenging Palace made of not one, but two people, they accidentally pull the son of the Palace owners in.
Gideon found himself with parents trapped in a loveless marriage, each trying to use him as leverage over the other. Once inside his parent's Palace, he found it a Mansion split in two: one half a burning inferno of a fire, the other half a frozen hell of ice and snow. In the center however, a perfectly preserved ballroom, representing himself.
It was in that center room that Gideon would awaken his Persona and thief gear as Mariner.
