A personal note: This Therian Illustration is a particularly important symbol for myself. The Kestrel has been a strong influence supporting my love of art and hard work to advance my skills while always reminding myself I have more to learn while the Citrine has always represented the pulling light of inspiration and clear calm of a focused mind. This illustration represents the pull of research, advancement of intellect, and the strength of a determined mind combined with the elegant, softness of an empathic touch and a pride in being humble and graceful. I have loved to express my masculine side, through my connections with Dragon and Elk, however, Kestrel reminds me to be as attentive to and proud of my feminine and artistic side. The Wisteria and Air element add to these symbols with their own influences. More details below. 🙂
Kestrels are the smallest, and most colorful, of the carnivorous birds belonging to the Falcon family. For myself, they have been a symbol of a fierce, creative force that urges for an elegant yet determined attitude as you progress towards your goals. Never to be ashamed of who you are or give up on your dreams. On a wider scale, the Kestrel is connected with agility, mental speed, patience, and a commitment to your goals with thought towards your actions. They are one of only a few falcons that can hover, showing us how to wait for the perfect opportunity before acting. By keeping your mind agile and open, you will be more apt at changing directions and recovering from any situation with skill and grace. These raptors are one of the fiercest of the falcons, reminding us that size or appearance does not equal strength or intelligence. Their eyesight is so keen that they can spot beetles from the air and track ultraviolet light to find prey.
Citrines are transparent, yellow forms of Quartz, ranging in color from a pale yellow to a deep honey brown. They gain their name from the French word Citron, meaning lemon and, due to it's color, has also been referred to as Gold Topaz. It has been used as a gem as far back as 300 B.C. in Greece. It is considered a sister gem to Amethyst due to their similarities with the only difference between them being the rate of the oxidization of their iron impurities. It has been called the 'Merchant's Stone' or 'The Stone of Success' due to it's connections with success with goals and wealth. It is, appropriately, considered a drop of the sun and shines a light into the life of those who hold it. As the sun gives us vitality, so does the Citrine crystal. Filling us with spirit and a boost of progress in our actions and thoughts. It encourages not just working on our own success, but to share this with others. To be generous and thoughtful to others as we share our good fortune.
The Wisteria is a woody, twining vine belonging to the Pea family, Fabaceae, and includes approximately 8-10 species. They are native to Asia and North America, but are cultivated in many other areas for their beautiful flowers and eager growth. However, this also means that they can be considered an invasive species in areas where they grow too profusely. They easily grow in poor soil and are fast to spread, but take several years to start flowering. These flowers grow in large, dropping clusters of blue, white, rose, or purple colors. Their seeds are actually poisonous, growing in long, narrow legumes. Due to it's long lifespan, it is said to be a symbol of everlasting wisdom and it's reaching, climbing vines are said to represent the never-ending search for knowledge. The Wisteria is a beautiful, yet dangerous plant that symbolizes romance and purity as well as honor, control, resilience, and new beginnings.
The Air element is one widely known for it's connections to impartial intelligence and clear thought. It is said to represent the breath of life, the flow of energy, and mental thought. This element represents our constant stretch to increase our intellect and, as such, to reach our goals. Flexibility and adaptability are represented by the air element, teaching us to keep our mind and senses open to the flow of energy around us. By doing so, one can be ready for any subtle change in our environment or in those around us. By connecting with the flow of energy within our environment, we can keep our plans fluid, yet firm. If something changes, the day or plan is not ruined. It simply takes a rearrange of thought and action to keep on a productive path. The element of Air teaches us this ability, balancing detachment and emotional intelligence to create a rational and reasoned thought. The Air element is not just the wind that swirls around us, but the vital breath of life. The flow of energy and molecules that moves within and around us all the time. Connecting us all.
