Yep. Between the last page and this one it really just makes it clear this rabbit guy sucks. He's just actively trying to get in the way of what Basil wants. Someone that isn't happy with their body and wants to change it shouldn't get told what is basically "Forget your own plans and just be what I want you to"
I can get where he's coming from, I also understand why a lot of people would have red flags for it.
I wouldn't see that he's being manipulative, nor trying to shape Basil the way -he- wants him to be.
More, I feel like he sees through Basil's lack of confidence as closer to a self-loathe that can't accept him for x reasons. That he feels like, he'll go through all the effort of change and when he finally gets there, realise nothing has changed because he hasn't addressed the core issue.
Like he did, in a very unhealthy way and didn't address his core vulnerabilities and issues. That, he was suppressing a very core part of himself. I did that, it does really darken your perspective and can make you incredibly hateful. It also takes a lot of therapy to overcome.
It does provide some warning about his character, but to ultimately fess up to weakness like that - probably means it's quite genuine. I'd be open to taking it on board, but I'd have some degree of wariness about them.

These are very bold statements coming from a complete stranger. Don't get me wrong, these are serious things Basil needs to consider, but with close friends and family who support him. This guy is way overstepping his bounds. Hell, we know more about Laguna than this guy, first and foremost his name.
But on the other hand, Basil's first assumption was this guy thought he was disgusting. Self deprecation like that won't go away just cause he starts lifting, and will definitely make just walking into a gym more difficult. Now, thanks to this guy, Basil has solid evidence his assumption was wrong. Also this guy made him cry in public, so any chance of subtlety is dead in the water.
TLDR; Congrats MikroGoat, you've got me hooked.
