Sketch for a Cataragon commission for
GothchyldeAzrael!
This was a case where GothchyldeAzrael wanted to create a Cataragon, rather than basing it on already made character. He's a bit different than a normal one, as he's got a bob tail, missing wings (still nubs though), and a pinned right pupil.
What is a Cataragon?
A made up species I created, based on combining a cat with a dragon (but it isn't a hybrid). They come in many varieties, many based on environment (such as desert, forest, arctic tundra, mountians, etc etc.) To be clear once more, these are NOT cats OR dragons, they are their own species!

Only that is is based on it, the idea merely came from the hybrid concept. I chose to give it a sheath because it isn't a hybrid, and the fact I wanted to make the gender differences more obvious as otherwise, you can't really tell with these guys (on purpose, in this case). In either case, I know cats don't have them, and I'm not arguing that fact, but this is my species and that's just the way I desired it. Had it been an actual hybrid, then yes, no sheath would have been added. :>
I understand :> I wasn't criticizing the fact that you added it. I was honestly curious as to why you would because neither cats nor dragons have them. If you want to add it, by all means, do so. I have no quarrel about it really, and I respect your decision to keep your creature as is.
Considering that most furry characters are animals, then obviously they should be anatomically correct. Why would you not want to draw any character that isn't anatomically correct?
Besides, the point I was trying to make was that cats have a cock under their tail, not like this creature, which has a dog-like protrudence.

I'm simply stating that most anthro feline characters you see aren't drawn with their cock under their tail. :/ However, as this character is 'feral' that doesn't apply; maybe the commissioner just wanted a surefire way to make sure his character wasn't mistaken for a female? I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm just stating that while you are right, it could have just been something the commissioner wanted. |c
BUT if the artist wished to be more correct with their creatures, they would consider that neither a cat nor a dragon would have a visible cock. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3377789/ Such as in this, where she again draws it with a sheath, one that would not exist. Prehaps the commissioner did want it, fair enough. But it's still not anatomically correct.
Then talk to the commissioners about their design? .__. I've seen dozens of pieces that aren't anatomically correct, but it doesn't take away from the character. Not to mention, not a lot of people really pay too much mind to things like that. Muscle shape, body type, head size... sure. Not whether or not a cock on a made up creature is in the right spot.
Dunno, that's how I see it. However, I'm not saying I'm right; everyone has their own thoughts and are entitled to them. *shrug*

I've had some people go so far as showing me a real life cock reference pic (*shivers*) and saying, "draw it right, like THIS!" *Some* people indeed nit pick when it comes to little things like gender parts.
Far as a made up creature/hybrids ('aliens' in my case), there should be no rule other than what its creator gave them
But alas...

Yet another needless reply from someone who has nothing to do with this :/ I was only talking to kcravenyote. Not you, the person before, or Emerald-draconis. I didn't need your input, nor do I care what you think.
My CRITIQUE to KC was that neither cats nor dragons have sheaths. Nothing more, nothing less. Because they don't have sheaths, and giving such a creature as such seemed stupid to me. I wasn't ordering her to change it. I was simply pointing out something I found odd. I was not rude, while you, might I repeat, were extremely impolite and irritating by saying something that you were never involved in.
Clearly, you are just as hung up, as you felt the need to reply to me. Please refrain from sticking your nose in business that has nought to do with you. Regardless on whether or not the creature is make believe, critique can still be given, and opinions. Yours was not welcome.
