This is actually a reamake of an older drawing that was based on a stick figure drawing in humanoid form, it's quite hard to translate human poses into meerkat anatomy, any tips would be greatly appreciated. :D

well i like the line going down her back and her leg, see the slight "s" shape? you could maybe exaggerate it abit to get more 'movement'. usually drawing a few quick underlying stick figures help keep the motion.

to loosen up, i draw a couple very quick, squiggly stick figures in exessively cartoony poses. helps lessen the 'stiff' appearance of a finished product i think.

Yeah, I try to give her an s shaped back and backside, one thaat flows into her feet. I usually make a few quick sketches before I start working on the real thing as well as stick figures, but stick figures for meerkats are hard, at least down at the legs. lol.

MAybe I'll look into exaggerating her design a bit, might make her cuter as a character. Any thoughts on this particular chartacter? Things you like, and stuff you don't?

well i'm assuming you're using a Lion King/Disney style? based off Timon? well I work from animal to anthro, trying to pick out natural lines & rhythms in the beast itself. Those tend to guide how it will stretch (look) when given human qualities/poses. Its a hard thing to communicate/teach, but I think you're on the right track and can sense those shapes(rhythms) but it just takes practice which lends itself to refinement. bah I don't want to sound negative or mean, i hope i don't that's not the point! hehe. if you can, do some sketches soon and post em.

Well, my meerkats are kinda sorta based off the TLK model, but I really like to think that it's somewhat my style as well, as you can see she's shaped a little differently from teh TLK form, I'm still working on refining my style, especially when it comes to my meerkat characters, I do try to keep the essence of the animal in my characters, and I usully base what species the particular character is off of his/her personality. Some of my drawings are based off of some of my friends, and it jsut so happens that many of my friends have a meerkatish personality. And you don't sound negative at all, I'm really enjoying this convo, maybe we should meet up on aim or yahoo or something.
