Just to end speculation.
Yes, I was seriously considering redoing The Class Menagerie in comic book format after i.s.o. wraps. For the most part, there would be minimal rescripting, it was intended to just be a redux, not a reboot. The project was on my brain for probably a couple years now. I'd had some kind of preview/announcement in the works for awhile, but I've decided I'm tired and I need a break from comics, so it probably isn't going to happen. I'm just dumping this here now that it's moot.
Given that the character designs are almost all 15 years old+, I was intending to do some renovations. Here's some test concepts for Tony, Brad, Biff, Mikey, Scott, Lisa, Dani, and a hairstyle test for Kevin. For the most part, there's new hairstyles and some contemporary wardrobe spins. Just a few interesting points:
--Tony just has a buzz instead of that weird brushed-back hairstyle that sometimes looked like a pompadour. The slightly torn sweatshirt is something I've noticed on excessively massive guys.
--Brad always looked more like a bodybuilder with a gut than a husky guy, mainly because that's pretty much the only way I could draw overweight guys. So this way he looks more wall-like and heavy than beefy.
--Biff ended up having more of a rugged, hunky look than being slightly doofy as he was earlier (more about that below). He wasn't going to be shirtless ALL the time, though probably fairly often when indoors at the dorm (that's allowed ;-p).... I just drew him shirtless here cuz I felt like it ;-p Gone are the sweatpants, because quite frankly, I don't know if men wear them anymore, I never see them in stores. Also gone is the Lion King-ish color scheme. And I updated to more of a jock-type hairstyle and goatee.
--Mikey now actually LOOKS like a kangaroo; what most people don't know is that Mikey's design was originally a fox, and I merely adapted him minimally to become a kangaroo. Here I've given him a much more roo-like face. The ponytail is back! If sweatpants are hard to find, I know sweat SHORTS are even rarer, so I renovated his outfit for an underarmor shirt+athletic pants, since I still wanted him to consistently have a displaced, sporty look.
--Scott...or whatever I'd name him. Okay, Scott started out as Mr. Suave, then turned into Vince Beefcake Fodder when my hormones took over. You can still see a couple very old CM strips where he's dressed up. The problem was, Scott never got many fans, and it was a little weird having a stud who people didn't find attractive. Part of it, I concluded, is younger women tend to be more interested in style than beef, so I went back to Scott's original concept of being well-dressed, and I also made him more bishie-ish. I concluded a different species was needed...I was strongly considering using a coyote (too many canines in the story, though) or a hyena (better suited for a beefy character), so I experminted with an ottery guy. I was kind of aiming for more of a Justin Timberlake sort of look. This isn't final, just a concept. At any rate, this probably meant that all "beefcake" gags that had previously been assigned to Scott would now have to be transferred to Biff, but that wouldn't really affect the plot much.
--Lisa just needed some updates to her outfit and hair. I also was playing up her fox half a little bit more and darkened her ears.
--Kevin's outfit was always quirky so I found no need to update that. He did need a different hairstyle, which I never finalized. Unfortunately contemporary hairstyles are longer and I hate them, so I was assuming it'd be one of those sort of shaggy unkempt looks teens have lately (seriously, can you even CALL it a hairstyle if it's not really even styled?) So this was a test; I don't know if I like it, but then, I'm pretty sure I won't like whatever I would've settled on.
--Dani got a new hairstyle too, but otherwise I just made her overalls a little baggier and it still works.
--You'll notice Cindy is absent, which is half the reason I haven't posted this 'til now. I'd wanted to make an announcement like this a long time ago, but I could never consolidate a design for her that contemporary, proper, feminine, AND still outwardly very attractive. I was intending to recruit some help on it, but I never got around to it.
So, just a WIP peek into what never was!

Scott we hardly knew ye.
Seriously, he seems like a completely different person as a ferret.(?) And what of that 'this is not the best time to be cold-blooded' joke during the thing where those three guys lost everything playing strip poker!
It's like crisis on demontfort earth over here.

Woot! Wait... awwwww!!! Well I'm STILL holding my breath! I'm sure you won't be able to abstain from some sort of artistic project for too long before accounting eats your brain ; )
Hehehehe, Brad looks authentically red-neck now! Biff's New Hair Cut (I can't remember how to inlay it so: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlU2KUhgMa8). Mikey looks so... soooooo bishi. ~pouts~ way cuter before hand (and much more like a martial artist). Tony's looking sexier than ever though.
And it's pretty much tradition to change it up with Scott isn't it (it HAS to be considered tradition now at least).

That's right, I'm from waaaaaaaay back!
But, but but Mikey was/is just SOOOOOOOO adorable! Which is what made his character. The fact that the cutie kangaroo was so obnoxious, you can't help but love him despite the hate you have welling up inside.
Oh, and there's nothing to fear in the link, he would actually be a pretty decent Biff if he were of a more football-looking variety.

Oh, I know you were, just not sure how much you remember. I can barely remember it all.
See, that's the thing, I always thought he was obnoxious and annoying as hell, and I resented that everyone found him loveable. He's a DORK, peoiple xD
I'm...so torn about that link. On the one hand, haaaaawt. On the other, it pains me to think there are guys who act like that iRL. And on the other, I don't know why I FIND guys like that hawwwt @.@

Well, about Brad, I could point you to TheWielder here in FA, about heavy bodybuilder types (muscleguts, hmm).
About Biff, there is a show in MTV (or used to , i dunno) called Jersey Shore, and there is a ... ahem , character? called Ronnie, that I think could fit the bill. Most likely is the MTV site, with loooots of reference photos.
Tony looks like the friend you could hug and he hugs you in return, nice.
And about Mikey... if he´s a roo, then I believe his skates should be, I dunno, larger?
About Dani... hmm... maybe if you look at lizarbeth´s character, that could give you some ideas, just sayin´.
Kudos!

Biff was always a bit of a pri... jerk in my book (hunky body not withstanding). Granted, he did mellow slightly as the series progressed. But, there was always something charming about Scott, the ladies' lizard; that deep beneath the sunglasses and scaly exterior beat a heart of gold.
Even though both of them starred in that horrid abortion of a "fanfic" I wrote years ago (*groan* the one and only time I broke my own rule about not writing for other people's characters), Scott was the one I liked.

Sad that this comic wont get another shot at life, but I love the work your doing now and the work youve done in the past. Whatever project you come up with after I.S.O i will be more than excited to give it a read!
And i liked Scott, he was just different enough to make the entire cast seem more diverse.

Thankee muchly. Though I don't really know if there'll BE another project. It's hard to develop one's art with constant deadlines, so I'd rather do something where I can just do art for the hell of doing art.
I suppose it was nice having a reptile around. Maybe I can make Cindy into one! J/K.

I am looking forward to this, Cody. I enjoyed all of the characters in the first series; even Scott when he was a green iguana or whatever he was, but an otter works too (thinks about Dean Wilson from Animalympics, an otter character who acts so cool.) Maybe you can make Cindy into a unicorn or a puma, since both are pretty feminine looking.
Awwwwwwww... I was so looking forward to see The Class Menagerie again in comic book form
A redux ?? Golly, I would have rather have their story taken forward, probably a couple of years later after Brad left the college since it has been quite a while since we saw them.
As for Scott, I liked him better as an iguana since you rarely see iguanas in comic strip or comic books. I have seen enough otters on my part.
Nice to see them again here but... *sigh*

The problem is writing is the difficult part for me, not the art. I don't have the energy to write anymore. If it's strictly redrawing up old scripts, it would've been a lot more efficient for me.
Plus, there'd be no more Brad then.
Yeah, I guess he really was the least common species of the cast, wasn't he? ^ ^;;

I absolutely LOVE the redesign on Mikey. He looks amazing like that. Tony looks much the same, but the redesigns on Brad and Dani, while not overly dramatic, are very effective. However, I dunno why, but I'm not a fan of the redesign on Biff. I think it's mainly the facial hair and, surprisingly, the lack of his jersey. ;p
Scott's redesign is a bit weird, as I preferred him the other way (and yeah, I'm one of those weirdos who thought he was attractive).

You *don't* like the facial hair? And I mainly dropped the jersey because I think wearing it all the time is more high school than college, from what I've seen. He *would* have a shirt in public, probably a singlet or something.
You did? Arrgh, why are all these supporters coming out now? XD

While I do admit that remaking something is always a tough thing (Since most people feel more attached to the older versions of the characters), but you've done a great job so far! I'm very fond of Brad's new look - it suits him really well!-, on the other hand, I didn't recognize Biff at all (Thought he was some sort of Cougar at first), alas, he isn't the same Lion without his bear/mane...that's just me anyway!
The old Scott had a sort of 80's feel to him that was very (not sure if it's the right word) charming, the new look does suit him more based on what you wrote though!

I like "The Class M" It's what drew me to your art. I'm sorry to hear that you will not be doing it, it would be interesting. I remember you wanting to change scott's character right in the middle of the series. Which doesn't suprise me that you would change him again. I would suggest in keeping with the original. IMHO. I think biff has too long of a muzzle for a lion at least. Anyway good luck in all your endeavors and a Class M comic wouldn't be that bad, even if you stick with the original artwork.
Damn I am late, that's what happens when your computer breaks down.
Dude, Scott was my favorite character. I still have the rough draft to a fanfic I had written about him somewhere in the depths of Backup hell. (Don't worry, PG rated) I also remember trying to draw him a lot. And my favorite story was the one where he and Brad visit his parents.

I'm definitely going to have to side with Rakeesh on this one! Suddenly throwing a curveball and turning Scott from a burly iguana to a lanky otter is just a load of crap! Now all the studly ladies-man jokes are all gonna be less effective! You don't just post a comic archive for years and years, and suddenly change the freakin' rules, dude. I and Rakeesh for two really really REALLY hope you don't go through with that.
I noted I'm not doin' this project. Any macho jokes would've transferred to Biff s needed.
But anyway, don't blame ME XD Blame young women's taste in men that seem to have changed over the past decade. It makes no sense to have a hunky guy swaggering around if most girls don't even NOTICE that to begin with! The otter seems to be a lot closer to what they want these days, so it fits.
