Citizens and visitors of a better Hallownest
I wanted to make a group drawing to showcase many aspects of my reimaginated Hollow Knight AU, Wonderful Knight
It's kinda like a family photo, except it isn't, if it was a family photo, I would have put the Lost kin, the Greenpath vessel from where you find Hornet, and, well, probably a lot of others.
So, let's get to it, I'd like to guide you through this drawing!
First, you probably are asking yourself "Who's that black fluffy character at the left?". Well, I'd like to present a new species to this franchise. Behold everyone, meet the Pooka. I took this mythological creature from Celtic mythology! So, yeah, you can thank them for making that. In mythology, Pookas, are mysterious creatures that tend to have black fur, and can transform into many types of animals. Pookas are usually portrayed as rabbits or as horses. I chose to make my Pookas look similar to rabbits because Hallownest is an underground Kingdom, and, well, rabbits live underground.
In the lore of my AU, Pookas created the dream nail alone instead of the moth tribe, in fact, it wouldn't be possible to use the transporting function of the dream nail without the help of the Pookas, they made it possible. I'll make multiple Pooka characters, and write more lore about them.
On the top there's the White Lady, she cares about her children, and, well, she can see well now! She's also able to move anywhere now, she's got legs now, well, you can't see those now because of the other characters standing in front of her. And if you were able to tell them to move, well, she would have a long dress. She's got a ribbon and a scarf, well, because in her original design, she had a scarf like dress, so, I wanted to expand on that.
At the center, there's the Ivory King, who's the counterpart to the Pale King in this AU, he's alive now, just like a lot of other characters! He's not cruel in this world, he's caring for his children, and wouldn't be throwing any of them very deep into a pit. In fact, his Kingdom is thriving and his citizens are very interested to hear about him and his family, the house of Hallownest.
In front of the Ivory King, there's our hero, Knoshie. I made Knoshie's palette a bit more similar to the original Knight's colors, because I think I made them too bright the first time, and added a neck to the cloak, it just feels better according to me.
At the left of Knoshie, I'd like to show you... The Wonderful Knight, or, also called the Pure Vessel. I still haven't given them a proper noun name in addition to their common noun names, you know, like how I gave the Knight the proper noun name Knoshie. I'm giving those characters personalities and identities, in order to make this AU go in a more colorful and expressive direction. Well, enough technical stuff. The design might be a bit... unfaithful to the original Pure Vessel. Someone on Discord pointed at the horns and thought that the horns had void ends, when it really was the black lineart edge. I decided to incorporate this into the design of my Pure Vessel, and add some void with white end horns too. In my AU, the Pure Vessel isn't being infected, and is being taught about ruling the Kingdom. The Pure Vessel is also fond of a certain Jellyfish you might have probably seen before.
At the right of Knoshie, there's Hornet, I have shown her to you previously. She is still a child of both the Ivory King and Herrah, but, the reasons those two got together for that might be probably different in this AU, you'll know why when we get deeper into the story I'll tell you in this AU. Also, the new thing in this pic are her shoes, nice, don't you think?
At the left of the Wonderful Knight, there's a new character unique to this AU, he usually gets called Surole. As for now, I'll keep him a bit mysterious, as I wanna keep you paying attention to the tiny bits of information I give out. He isn't a vessel, he is a new species that I made for this AU. According to the lore, moths in the Hollow Knight universe were created by the Radiance. So, since I don't want to see Surole being tied to the Radiance, I'd like to announce that, he is a Noth (or noff). A noth is a bug similar to a moth, with wings and fluff, but, it wasn't created by the Radiance.
At the right of Hornet, there's the Hive Queen, Vespa. she's alive as well! And, well, she won't be having any problems in the hive. She gets along with the Ivory King, and is usually teaching Hornet about several topics. I experimented a bit with her design, making one pair of eyes white and the other black, because it feels like having sunglasses, I also added huge antennae, to make her feel more like a bee, and also added some wings. I gave her clothes since most of the Wonderful Knight characters I tend to draw have clothes.
At the right of Vespa, there's the Troupe Master Grimm, I didn't alter his design a lot, because, I think he looks fine, but, still gave him a bit of changes in order to make him "The Grimm of this AU", and to be original. In this AU, The Grimm Troupe isn't slaved to the Nightmare's heart. Everything they do is part of an act, and they travel between kingdoms to entertain bugs!
Now that I mentioned all of the characters, I have to say, this drawing took a lot of days to make, it included planning, making different designs that could work in the art style I estabilished for this AU, and researching about lore (and about pookas)
One funny thing about this pic, is that, when I was finishing it, in November 1, it was the Pooka day.
Stay tuned for more lore, pics, and more. I have been learning to use Unity, so, maybe, there's the chance I'll make a fangame out of this.
I also made this pic in 16:9, so, maybe I could use it as a wallpaper.
