Fate is a good system. Dice don't tend to be very swingy due to the nature of 4d3(essentially) and the -1, 0, +1 nature of it.

getting a roll of +3, +4, -3, -4 is only 12% total between all 4 of those. The other 80% goes to -2, -1,0,+1,+2
