4. Zongzi

Zongzi is the tenant upstairs. He rents a two-room apartment, though he seems to use one room as storage. His real name sounds like “Zongzi” (rice dumplings) when you say it quickly. He’s taking longer than usual to graduate from college.

Zongzi doesn’t go out very often. Since he’s a super senior at college, he doesn’t have many classes to attend. At home he’s always walking around shirtless, or otherwise wearing a wifebeater and a pair of boxers. He’s quiet and grumpy, always looking crossed even when he’s not. Only during meals and movies do we get to see other expressions from him. He loves singing in the showers, but I never recognize his songs. He seems to prefer tunes by foreign bands.

Zongzi hates the rain, since he doesn’t like water soaking his feet. “I can’t stand even the slightest bit of moisture. It gives me the creeps,” he says. “but I like the smell of rain.”
