The Lucky Fox: Chapter 3
“Are you ready, little fox? You’re in for a long and daring journey.” Fay said “Your first step is to climb Magma Mountain.”
“Magma Mountain? Aren’t there dragons?”
“Yes, but don’t worry. Just show them respect and they shall not harm you.”
“Ok, if you say so.”
A stone staircase helped the little fox climb the mountain without having to jump on outgoing rocks. It was easy, but long and a little exhausting. Soon, he got to a dragon village. Many dragons were flying and walking around, minding their own business.
“Just try not to look offensive to the dragons.” The little fox said to himself.
Suddenly, he spotted a young purple dragoness, stealing on the sly some snacks from a dragon food stand. He followed her. Just as the dragoness was about to eat, the little fox called her.
“Hey! What you did is wrong!”
The dragoness quickly flew toward him and covered his mouth.
“Shhh! Lower your voice! They will discover me.”
“But you stole that food!” he whispered. “Isn’t it illegal?”
“I know, but there is no other way. My family is poor. It has been like that since I have memory. That’s why I have to steal food for us.”
“Oh, sorry. I didn’t know. My dad stole cheese from a crow, but it was to teach that crow a lesson, since it was so selfish. I guess everyone have their reasons to steal.”
“Wait, are you from the Fairytale Fox Family?”
“Yes! But unlike them, I haven’t earned a story, yet. But I’m on my way to finally achieve something in my life. What’s your name?”
“Amethyst. And you are…?”
“I have no name.”
“Seriously? That’s weird.”
“I guess it’s because we Fairytale Foxes don’t need names for everyone to recognize us. Just our stories.”
“Well, what are you doing here?”
“I was just passing through. I’m travelling to the Mysterious Mine, where a pair of magic crystal slippers is found.”
“Mysterious Mine? I’ve heard from that place. Some dragons say a monster lurks there.”
“A monster?”
“An enormous two headed snake called the Bi-per.”
“Wow, I’m not sure if I can make it alone…”
“No, you can’t!”
“That’s why you are coming with me!”
“Me?”
“Yes. I like you.”
“But why are we doing this in the first place?”
“Oh, we must save a princess whose feet were bewitched by an evil wizard. Only the magic slippers will break the spell.”
“And what’s in for me?”
“Well, we’re talking about a princess. She must have a lot of riches. If you help her, she’ll surely pay you back.”
“You’re right! That way, I won’t have to steal nor scavenge for food to help my family! I’m in!”
“Well said, Amethyst! Uh, can I call you Amy?”
“Sure.”
“Well, Amy, you can join me, but with one condition.”
The little fox convinced Amy to return what she stole from the food store. Amy apologized to the store’s owner and told him that she would repay everything she stole in the past when she and the little fox returned from their adventure. Amy said goodbye temporarily to her family, and both friends ventured on their way to the Mysterious Mine.
