Well, that got awkward really fast. Poor Sierra. I don't know whether it would be better or worse to know that your father made it into the history books, if you're living in a time after most people probably stopped caring about such things. I suppose it's nice to know he made a difference, though, and that, maybe, if he couldn't stop the worst from happening, he might have kept some small part of it, at least, from being as bad as it might otherwise have been.
Odds are she already knew, given that the book would have been published before the end of the war to end up in the Sanctuary library. Even still, the reminder of her father is what stimulates a majority of the planned first novel, and in theory the entire series, as her relationship with her dad is a recurring theme throughout. His fate is a significant question in Sierra's mind, as she does not truly know what happened to him the day of the war's conclusion.
