Sorry, I couldn't read your entire question or write an answer better constructed by a problem with my head.
Now that I can read and write, I will tell you that I personally draw them as if they were of this species even though I handle Tiny as a kind of hybrid, as if they were daughters of the same mother but of different parents, but of course, that is just in my version.
On the other hand, the creators of the characters in their original designs (before the Rare-Microsoft era) operated a system where the characters with five fingers on the hands are gorillas and the characters with 4 fingers on the hands are monkeys (baboons, capuchins , spider monkey, wolf monkey, tamarin, etc), although curiously orangutans are apes, in kongs orangutans only have 4 fingers like monkeys (Manky and Lanky Kong). When Nintendo had the characters redesigned, they gave almost everyone 5 fingers for a taboo with the yakuzas and their habit of cutting off the little finger when a promise is broken with them (from this practice was born the "promise of the little finger" that in many parts of the world it is done innocently).

Also, they need to sever the extra storage of their hand that used for "Pinkie"/little finger as well. And yes, I am aware of what those gang had done to their failure - I have see and cover all Yakura games (except for the latest released one, which was still in the Japanese, until November 20, that is).

I was tempted to draw Diddy as a boy who wanted to keep both girls and Dixie got angry, in the end I decided that if they were going to be adults, they would behave like such, so I opted for them to have serious problems and Diddy decide that they would break their relationship before someone got hurt and some time later the Tiny thing happened
