I had hoped for an epic vista for sunset today, but unfortunately a storm rolled through killing the dramatic light. I had gotten on the scene about an hour and a half early to really lock in my composition, and prepare the first exposure settings. Once I realized the storm was rolling through and sunset was a bust I decided to try something I have never done properly before... A full panorama. I wasn't sure it would work out, but here is my very first fully stitched pano.

I think your picture came out great. Photography--especially nature photography, is about 98% luck, like being in the right place at the right time, with a camera with batteries on full charge...
I live in Appalachia myself, and this time of year, the mountains look like somebody threw a jewel-toned quilt over them. I like it best when the sun backlights the leaves. But some of my favorite photos were just lucky accidents.
This image is nice because the red-gold foreground contrasts with the blue-gray background. I think this turned out better than you think it did. ;)

I appreciate it :D After 30 years of living in WNC, I have seen more of the mountains this year than I had in the previous 29. While I have always loved photography... this year I started to get serious about it, so I am constantly second guessing myself, learning new tricks, and just being out and about has helped me improve greatly.
