Amphisbaena are my favourite obscure mythical creature! :}
A snake with a head at both ends of the long coily body. But perhaps there was a version of that myth where they were also feathered serpents? That might be why you've ended up with this bird/harpy-style look, with the snake-tail to adhere to the 'head at both ends' part of things. :}
