Its very common, a suprising percetage of the populous are frightened by balloons, or more them popping, and even though a ballon like that wouldnt be as loud as something smaller and tigher people see the size and assume its going to be the apocalypse when it pops. There are also a surprising number of balloon fetishists in the furry fandom and as they are split between the like to pop and the dont like to pop camps its a recipe for disaster having balloons at a con, if its in a public place you will make the 'dont like to pops' scared that the balloon is there and that someone might pop it and then you get the 'like to pops' trying to pop it, for this reason a few large conventions have banned balloons altogether, there are also people stupid enough to blow-pop balloons in places like hotel lobbies, something making a really loud bang in a hotel lobby isnt a wise idea in this day and age.
They sell them on Ebay or you can do a search for " weather balloons" and find a source there. This is a latex one they also come in Chloroprene which is a lot stronger and last much longer more money.
A large shop vac works well for this size balloon by reversing the suction side for the hose to the discharge side it fills them up quite well.

Hi there ! the sad part is there are only a few cons that have a common area big enough to allow for such activities FWA, MFM, Megaplex and Furfright. yes I took good care of it and after two hours of sharing it with friends and balancing it on my head I left the air out of it and packed it away!It made the con staff a little nervous as they were afraid that I would damage the lights above as has happened before from people rough housing but I assured them I would be careful as I understand their position and cost involved for repairs. I have always considered my actions and possible consequences out of respect for hotel property as well as others I attend the convention with. One thing that is important when in a public area always have enough spotters handy in case things get out of control, any trouble can be quickly dealt with and problems avoided,I learned that lesson well from an incident earlier at the con that I never want repeated.
