I'm sorry, but while I would like to take vicarious pride, I think she's building up Skeeter Valentine entirely too much in her mind.
As for The Academy in question, it's interesting to hear just what kind of stuff her world has formalized! I also bet they use the terminology "magna laude" and "summa laude" just because they got sick and tired of all the "cum" jokes that were allowed to be sprinkled their way. ("bukkake saserareta" if you will.)

Wikipedia explains it thus: "Valedictorian is an academic title of success used in the United States, Canada, Philippines, Greece, and Armenia, for the student who delivers the closing or farewell statement at a graduation ceremony. Maledictorian is a term I made up because I thought it was funny. Presumably a maledictorian is the opposite of a valedictorian: Someone who graduated at the bottom of the class, with the worst grades, and at the graduation ceremony gets up and insults everyone.
