Now there are many magic users already in my comic I could have drawn, but I decided instead to draw someone new to Eon's World, but not at all new to Sonic lore, and that's the evil wizard Naugus. Now, in the SatAM cartoon where he first appeared, Naugus's origins and species were never given, but in the Archie comics, he was originally a strange fusion of three Mobian mages -- a bat, a lobster, and a rhinoceros. Post-reboot, he was established to be a troll descended from an ancient society of troll mages. I never liked the weird fusion story and trolls are pretty firmly established lore in Eon's World at this point, so neither option really worked for me. That's why I chose to reimagine Naugus as a human instead, but I made sure to include a few design elements that reflect his appearance in official media -- the outfit, of course, but also a hook where the original's lobster claw was and a circlet with a decorative horn on it to reflect the original's rhino horn.

Oh yeah, and for the record, I'll be using his first name from post-reboot Archie Sonic when he does show up in Eon's World (if his first name is ever given), which is Walter. Don't call him by it and especially don't call him Wally if you don't want to be turned to crystal. ;)
