Fictober 2020 16: "I never wanted anything else"
Humming happily to herself, Gloria trotted around her living room, setting up the projector for that night's movie. She had managed to get hold of quite a few films from the “human” world that suited her tastes, such as Godzilla, Gamera, Rodan and Gorgo, which went well with her own Equestrian collection. Dust was brushed off of the shelf that held such classics as Emberzilla, Fluttershy Was Our Ship, Musical Giants and more!
The yellow mare had just hopped into the kitchen to fix a bowl of popcorn when there was a knock at the door. Stomping her way to the door, she grumped and growled. The kaiju fan hated being interrupted on movie night.
Throwing open the door, her anger melted away instantly as she was greeted by the sight of a familiar wall-eyed gray pegasus hovering just over her porch with a large cardboard box in her hooves.
“Delivery for Gloria! Sign here, please!”
Gloria smiled and signed, taking the box excitedly. She invited the delivery mare in to join her for a movie, but sadly she had to decline as there were many more deliveries on her route that day. Dragging the box inside and kicking the door closed behind her with a back hoof, she tore into the tape with her teeth, in such a rush to see what was within.
The first thing that caught her eye was a large movie poster for a film she had never heard of before. A gigantic white mare with a DNA strand cutie mark was towering over the Manehattan skyline. Ponies in the foreground were fleeing in terror as the red-maned monster rampaged behind them. “The Giant of Manehattan” the title read. On one hoof she was a little disappointed by the cheesy title, but she was also excited to find a film she hadn't heard of. Gazing at the poster, she smiled for a moment. A giant pony instead of something more monstrous. What would that be like?
She giggled a little, fantasizing as she often did about being a giant monster herself as she carefully oiled the well loved and well used projector. Popcorn forgotten in her excitement, the mare very carefully locked the film reel in place, threaded it through the machine and cut the lights.
After a few seconds, music began to play, heavy on the low brass instruments and percussion, However, all that was on screen was a bright red glow. Tilting her head, she inspected the machine, which seemed to be working alright. She gave it a few gentle pokes and there was a puff of smoke before the projector went dark.
Flicking on the lights, Gloria grumbled as she stood in front of the projector and popped open a panel to see if there was a film jam. The machine suddenly sparked to life once more, bathing the pony in a much more magical red light. She stared in awe as her fur faded from pale yellow to white rapidly. The film reel cutie mark on her flank twisted and warped into a DNA strand as her hair lengthened, turning a deep red as it fell into her eyes.
Before she could even begin to wonder what was happening, she felt a jolt run through her like she had been struck by lightning. She felt dizzy as she looked around the room. Everything seemed so much lower to the ground as the mare dropped to her rump and stared at her hooves. Hooves which were rapidly getting larger as her head bumped into the ceiling. There was another POP and a puff of smoke as the projector stopped, but her transformation had only just begun!
Teeth sharpening to points, the huge earth pony's head smashed through her living room ceiling and into her bedroom, wearing an old throw-rug like a floppy hat! She shivered with excitement as she felt herself filling up her house, forgetting everything that was being destroyed below. Her projector, her collection of films, none of that mattered to her any more.
“I never wanted anything else.” She whispered, tears of joy streaming down her cheeks.
Eventually, her home could no longer contain her and the mare's massive form burst through her thatch roof like a butterfly shedding a cocoon. Still rapidly swelling in size and power, she let out a roar as she leaped into the street with an earth-shaking thud, smashing a parked taxi cart flat in the process. Towering over the suburbs, The Giant of Manehattan set her growing eyes on the city proper.

No way… DNA strand as a cutie mark, red mane, the NAME…
I think this Giant of Manehattan character was something I actually came up in a funny little movie poster a long while ago as a funny little 50s B-movie homage!
I still have the original image of that drawing in my files! I know a few people liked the pony I came up with and I let them have fun with it, but I didn’t expect to see a story of them. This is pretty dang cool!
