There's a game called "Dwarf Fortress". It's a little hard to explain, but basically... You have a bunch of dwarves, and you make a fortress. And the game keeps track of things like the personality and mood of every dwarf in your fortress, and injuries down to specific fingers, toes, and bodily organs (and in the new version, layers of tissue). It's almost scary how much stuff it models.
It also allows you to do some seriously messed up stuff, such as:
Mark stray cats to be butchered.
A dwarf will come along, drag the cat to the Butcher Shop, and hack away.
The meat from the cat can be cooked into meals for the dwarves.
The cat bones can be carved into crafts or crossbow bolts.
The skin can be tanned into cat leather, for use in clothing or armor.
The fat can be mixed with lye (made by burning wood, then taking the ashes to an ashery with a bucket of water) to make soap.
Dwarves will sometimes have "strange moods", where they claim a workshop and demand materials. If they can get everything they demand, they'll create an artifact, gaining a ton of skill in that profession as well. If the dwarf in question is already miserable, he might snap and decide his artifact needs to be made out of another dwarf... At which point he will grab the nearest dwarf, butcher him, and make something out of dwarf leather or dwarf bone. (Strangely, nobody else will have a problem with him walking around wearing Dwarf Leather Breeches.)
It's a fun, but complex and unforgiving game. ^_^
