That's a nice locomotive. They really give her a workout when leaving the station and going up the mountain, it really shows you how fast they can move from stopped up a grade. With the draft in that engine I'm surprised more coal doesn't go up that stack and catch that place on fire.
Yeah the sound of this engine is fantastic on start-up from the station. For some reason they enjoy running full power up the hill and then crawl back down on the return.
Must be some sort of safety regulation the park came up with. The firemen do an excellent job at Dollywood and it shows since the exhaust is the correct shade of gray almost all day. Of course when the same engine has been running the exact same trip 10 times a day for 35+ years they've probably got it dailed in preatty good.
