A spring thunderstorm has brought the Dollywood Amusement park to a grinding halt. All rides shutdown including the parks signature train ride until the storm passes.
Here #70 simmers in the rain awaiting it's next run with its headlight lit and steam generator cranking at full RPM's.
Between Dollywood and the Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock, NC there are actually three fully operational Alaskan 2-8-2 narrow gauge locomotives running in the southeastern united states.
Those being #70 and #192 (Dollywood) and #190 at Tweetsie.

This is a really excellent shot my friend!!
I unfortunately have yet to visit Tweetsie or Dollywood. I really like their water tank set up though, with the flume like thing bringing water to fill the water tank. Even if it is asthetic and not functional.
It's something I would mind modeling in On30.
Anyway, awesome photography!!

The real kicker is the water flume IS functional. If you look super close you can see the water emptying into the top of the water tank. Theres a pipe coming out of the opposite side of the tank that feeds down into a couple of decorative water features which in turn end up feeding into a small fish pond. The pond then drains into the parks water collection system and is pumped back up the mountain overlooking the park and back into the flume system again.
Theres flumes running all over most of the park and they run all kinds of little water features like wheels, a grist mill, the train water tower, and even a water powered clock. It's actually an ingenious way they came up with to circulate the water in all the ponds and lakes inside the park. They drain into a pump system which just circulates the water right back into the flumes which in turn feed the ponds.
