Looking at this today makes me cringe when I see all the anatomic flaws in this. ^^; But still I like it a lot.
I'd do the tail-design differently today, along with some other things.

Alana stayed in this shape, even after she returned home after more then several decades of being lost. The documentations brought home were quite valuable for the Sa'jat to make long-range travel more safe.

Even though she sweared to never travel again, Alana supported several more expeditions after her children became adult.
