I have procured a tablet!
For those who didn't know, My cintiq went kaput last week. So have managed to borrow a tablet from a friend til i get the funds to buy a new one. T_T
Based on finances/bills it would be 2-3 months to acquire a new one, so NEW PLAN
I'm gonna be taking my 2nd week of vacation in next week or two and make it a commission/art crazy week!
Goal is to get enough funds to buy another screen tablet. Cuz this little thing works... but wow is different lol.
So stay tuned for updates on an art week!
Hey, if this week of commissions as a 9-5 can work out, might even be an option for a full time gig.
(Right now my art time is usually only weekends, since day job is overtime intensive)

Good to hear all this, BK!
As for using a non-display type tablet, it's not too hard. I'd give you a few hours at most to get adjusted to it, and it'll feel like using a Cintiq. Just... without the convenient [looking exactly where I want to put the line] intuitive drawing feel.

My old tablet still works even being 15 years old . It's actually the pen what is the weakest part (and it's Intuos, so cable is not a problem, bamboos have weak spot of cable being attached to the casing, tat's what fails more often).
Cintiq from model to model had same flaws - controllers that have EoL just as soon as model is in production and tend to be faulty, so you have NO chance to repair it if chip fails and it may fail suddenly. Being two devices in one, they have as much as twice failures - from USB controller, power distribution, flex cables, matrix. New model doesn't use same parts as older one, no, no chances there. ANd spare parts are unavailable so if local law do not support warranty with mandatory replacement, it becomes liability. Intuos series were the most sturdy ones, the only part that can fail mechanically were buttons and they aren't vital. Bamboo weak spot was cable, but that's repairable. I repaired friend's one using cable from cheap 5$ mouse :P

My main computer uses a 6x8 Bamboo (CTE-650) that was bought refurbished in 2009. It's USB cable plugs into the tablet (although the fact that seldom moves more than a few inches is probably a bigger reason why it's been trouble free). My ancient Grafire 2's have hard-wired cables, and they lasted way longer than they probably should before succumbing to flaky connections, since I carried them around with my 'away-from-home' laptop/s.
My current "road warrior" laptop has been equipped with a Intuos 4 pro I found on Ebay from a seller who had never used it, and I stuck a sheet of acetate over the active area after I learned that model's attempt at paper texture has a reputation for eating pen nibs. From time to time I'll lube the acetate with a thin layer of soap so the stylus glides across it with even less friction.

So essentially protector film from tablet computer (that's what I use)?
I used a cable tie also to retain cable at tablet's .. hook eye? Not sure what those holes are for, but this way cable doesn't wrench itself out of socket https://imgur.com/2vh4gmU

Not specifically for tablets: https://www.utrechtart.com/products.....eets-and-pads/
I cut a sheet about an inch bigger than the active area, then used removable double-sided tape to secure it: Photo of my away-from-home art-rig (the wacom case was bought separate since the tablet was pristine-original box and everything). My intuos didn't come with a right-angle usb plug, just an unusually long conventional one.

small screen-less are quite cheap - 50-100eur
Ones with displays (so you watch your pen as you draw) start from 200eur and there is no upper limit.
Majority of people have wacoms that have/had retail price of around 1-2k eur.
24inch cintiq pro is 2.5keur
And those quite often broke down after 3-5 years of usage and I try to fix them

I beleive you meant pressure levels :)
This number indicates how many different levels of pressure particular tablet can detect. This translates for instance into line thickness.
This way with a single stroke you can place a line that has different widths.
About lucrative, not really - it's not an apple product that you need to destroy their other product in order to fix the first one so you charge triple the normal price.
Not that many people have wacom tables that became faulty. + they are scattered around the world and shipping those big tablets is problematic.
It might so happen that even though I fix it it will get lost or damaged, and getting insurence back from DHL, fedex, ups or national post is pain in the ass.

did your Cintiq loose image but it turns on?
I have fixed a cintiq that "died" this way - it was a simple capacitor failure, it took longer to disassemble it than to fix it, haha
If you live in Europe I could try to rescue your tablet.
Shipment from US might come through customs and then I would have to pay a fee ;/

Hey ! I'm glad you managed to find something temporary to replace your cintiq ! I know it might sound/feel like a downgrade froma cintiq, but I'd really recommend having a look into the Huion range, they have some pretty decent quality offerings and they come at way cheaper than the wacoms, you can also take alook at XP-Pens I never tried these but I've heard decent reviews and they are also noticeably cheaper than wacoms too.
Wish you the best :3
