Not the normal upload to FA, but I have some buds who only hang here...
Just tweaking a little with Captain Marvel and Billy Batson's designs to go along with my "SHAZAM!" brainstorm (Don't hurt me! I'm still working on commissions, too!)...nothing major, really. I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel, but there are certain traditional elements of Cap that need to be addressed.
One of the guidelines I set was "Ditch the Norman Osborn hairdo." I know the guy was based on Fred McMurray originally, but it's the friggin' 21st Century, I think it's time to lose the pomade-and-shoe-polish look. Yeah, I know, I threw on my trademark bangs as well, but I had a reason: Superman has that little "S" spitcurl thing, so I gave Cap a couple of unruly bangs in the shape of an "M" (and I'm fully aware of his old hairline forming a rough "M" shape as well, but a guy with a teenage alter-ego really shouldn't be suffering from male pattern baldness). I threw them on Billy as well to better link the two identities without being blatant about it. I also swapped the ribbon loops on his cape for the diamond design Quesada gave him back in "Eclipso: The Darkness Within"since it looked a little sleeker and modern while still remaining classic...yeah, I'm probably pissing all over vintage "SHAZAM!" fans' cornflakes, but the idea is that Cap is supposed to be Billy's idealized adult form, and I don't know ANY modern teen who secretly longs for a receding hairline and pretty bows on his cape. The bows alone, maybe.
As for Billy...yeah, I gave him a hoodie. Fuck you. It's functional, reasonably stylish, contemporary yet long-lived enough to still feel timeless, and it looks good on him. It even plays a tiny story role at the beginning, where a de-powered Billy is still trying to be a hero and uses the hood to protect his identity.
...y'know, in keeping with the "based on a celebrity" bit for Cap, I tried to keep Nathan Fillion in mind while drawing him. Now that I look at him, I think I landed somewhere closer to Noah "Spoony One" Antwieller, though. Eh, close enough...

at this point, i'd accuse MOST of the DC lineup of being a parody of their older selves. they don't really seem to know what they want to do with their product......
actually, i wanted a Justice league headed jointly by blue beetle and plastic man, with none of the normal DC muscle in it that actually had to rely on unorthodox solutions to win to break with the "super team comes in, hit enemies until victory" problem. of course, then they killed blue beetle.....
