Just a close-up of my new computer, since I put a cute little Skulldog sticker on there! Had to use the flash to get this, and man... it just ain't pretty. It looks nice in the dark, with glowing red bits all over. But it isn't how it looks that matters, it's how it functions. And it works like a dream!

Just copy/pasting from the delivery list when it all arrived. I am SO not a tech person, my boyfriend and our friend built this computer and picked out all the pieces based off my budget and needs.

That looks to be a might beefy system! I'm more of an AMD/ATI guy out of personal preference so the GeForce specs are greek to me, but I imagine that's one hell of an upgrade from the laptop :P
Haha, I'm with ya there. I'm not much for case aesthetics. As long as it has good airflow it's good enough for me. Looks like you have a fan down in front of the harddrives so that's really good.

Processor got shipped separately, so I forgot to include it. This is what I got:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor
I've been working on a seven year old Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop. Grand scheme of things don't mean jack-shit to me, this new computer is powerful as hell compared to what I'm used to, and WAY MORE than serves my needs. It's far from "little" but a little can go a long way. ;)

I have that same exact processor, But the FSB is clocked to 1500 and core at 2.625. Only after getting the processor did I think that I should have gotten a server processor and clocked it at 3.0.
I will admit that upgrading from a single core or dual core to any quad core is a bit of a serous boost in overall performance.
I will say that you should could have gone with a GTX 260 or higher. I am running a GTX 260 SSC on a 1920x1080 monitor and have had little problems with playing computer games, namely FPS... ...I want a GTX 480...

Yep, I'll fully admit all of that went right over my head. XD My boyfriend and one of our friends built it for me based off my needs and budget because I'm not a tech person at all. I need the technology for my job and know how to use it, but all the specifics are beyond me. ^^; Also, I don't think I'll be playing any games. I'm one of those dumb old school gamers who still plays my SNES and Atari. The only recent games I've played beyond Zelda Windwaker are Mass Effect 1 & 2 and Prince of Persia. Though the free download of Portal does look tempting....
FYI you can play almost all cartage games on your PC, all you have to do is find an emulator and download the ROM's.
A server processor is better built to be overclocked when it is used in a home PC.
I built my own PC because it would have been cheaper and I got to learn how to build a PC. It is much simpler than it used to be. Just plan how things will go (my opinion the easiest part), read the manuals, attach the cables, hide the cables (improves flow) and install programs.
