I am doing artwork for the rabies/microchip clinic at the shelter I work at. The calico cat will be on the sign for the cashier and the blue merle aussie will be on the payment methods sign!

That sounds like an interesting thing to be doing. I am a huge fan of the microchip technology. The shelter I volunteer at microchips every critter that comes in the door.
I think the art on the signs will definitely get the message across and be a fun touch at the same time. Please do tell us all about the clinic, working with the public always generates interesting stories.

We chip almost every critter that is adopted (dogs, cats, rabbits, other critters like birds and fish and guinea pigs are not). We don't normally do this service for the public except on special clinic days! :)
I was going for cute and fun! :) It's hard being a county shelter, we have to work extra hard to get across that we are caring people and that the animal's welfare come first.
