Raj and Shen often spar with one another when they get the chance. Raj being the older and more seasoned fighter often lets Shen take the lead. Every now and then the young man will catch the pro off guard. That's what Raj loves most about these things. The thrill of discovery. For Shen it's for learning new things on his quest to understand himself and his body.
When Raj deems the kid has done well enough he'll revert to his hybrid wolf form and battle Shen for real. After all Shen can take it, he's an esper too.
