Limited reference.... I need some.
Just a quickie thrown together to force myself to colour/shade a pic. Desperately trying to find my groove, a method that feels comfortable and less awkward, in digital colouring and shading... still not quite there.
Don't bother critiquing on anatomy, technique... anything. I drew this as quick as I could using a new method for brainstorming and trying a concept-feel. Anatomy is certainly screwball and I obviously didn't spend much time thinking about light-source.
Reference Notes:
-No scale detail involved here. Neox has a very detailed scale-pattern on his face, knees, hands and feet.
-Tail is cut-off, concealing necessary details.

I don't deny that I have ability; what I'm attempting to overcome is this sense of extreme tension and awkwardness I get when I'm colouring and shading in photoshop. I can do line-art like nobody's business, and I can pencil-shade rather well. And even in doing photoshop colouring, I'm usually satisfied with the final product; it's the effort I put into it that feels like it's being wasted somehow... inefficient, if you will.
lulz at the red speedos =D
Hope you can get back into drawing and find a new 'groove'. Don't sacrifice your attention to detail and anatomy in doing so however! Your art has always rocked and had a significant 'depth' to it which I hope isn't lost when you settle on a new style.
