Sera was excited for another shift of counting people's good deeds. It really was her favorite job, followed by her odd seasonal jobs as a waitress or barista. She'd actually been recently promoted and had given her rotation preference for three states of the universe. Some people were bolder than she would even attempt and undertook more, but they usually requested a reclassification and took less after awhile. She didn't think that counting the good could be so detrimental, but too much of a good thing could be bad she guessed. It really was interesting though, seeing the lives of people in very different lenses, sometimes being almost the same person when it came to their morality and worldview. Sometimes they performed good in a different way or different occupation, but that they did things not for themselves was always enlightening. Of course she'd work the occasional cooperative shift with a counter of misdeeds, usually casing people that did good things, but fell victim to bad coping mechanisms in response to the evils they had to perform so that other's hands would stay clean. This didn't make them bad people, but that they could teeter each way was cause for an inter-company oversight to weigh in. Usually if the balance was that of a blade's edge there would be a representative of each side sent to test them and see which side they'd eventually go to. Sometimes people found redemption and their cases were marked for extra review, but sometimes even the best of hearts went dark and never came back. Oddly enough she'd made a friend who worked her opposite role, often a bit cynical, but that her view was opposite it gave insight on the intricacies of their work. Sera supposed that sometimes there was no way around it, and that not always would there be wholly "good" or "evil," and that sometimes a good person would slip into a string of bad deeds, or that even someone bad could do a good thing for once. She'd always tried not be naive about it, but it was difficult for her not to challenge the thought of ignoring it.
